Cremation Society of Virginia was established in 1996 to provide professional, compassionate services to the many Virginians who prefer simple, dignified cremation services. We are licensed by the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, and, unlike most funeral homes, we own and operate our own crematory.

I absolutely do not recommend CSV. They are incompetent and insensitive when dealing with the passing of a loved one. Tracy was an absolute nightmare to work with. She refused to respond to email or phone calls, never offered us any solutions or assistance when we had questions. It took 2 weeks and 12 phone calls to get a viewing date, they expected us to get the death certificate signed after we paid $900 in fees just for their “services”, and worst of all THEY CREAMATED MY FATHER WITHOUT EVEN INFORMING US.

Richard Owen was phenomenal! He made a very difficult situation as easy as possible and more then my family & I could ever expect. He was compassionate, transparent, thorough, efficient, professional, very easy to work with and talk too. No question was unanswered and everything with Richard from start to finish was above & beyond expectations!

Our experience with CSV have been exemplary. We worked with Tracy Hineman during the difficult process, and on each and every interaction, Ms. Hineman worked with us above and beyond our expectations. We will never forget how beautiful and peaceful Mom looked at our final intimate family viewing moment and it gave us great comforts during time of pain and sorrow. Thank you very much!

I'm thankful for the kindness of those who came to pick up my precious mother the night she died. The free on line obituary is very nice. Tracy was so helpful allowing me to text her pictures so then she put them on my mothers obituary page.
Just know when you make pre-arrangements that doesn't mean the paper work is done you still have lots of papers to sign after your loved one has passed.

My father recently passed away this August. My mother had passed in 2016 and the Cremation Society of Virginia had taken care of that as well.
My dad always talked about how excellent the process and the experience was when mom passed .
He had dealt with that , well this year in August my dad passed and I am the one who was nervous and wondering what the next steps were to take after he passed in the hospital.
I call the cremation society of VA as he instructed me to do and wow, the person who answered the phone at 9:30 ish that night could not have been more kind and sympathetic , my father

The atmosphere at the office, and speaking with Callaghan , she was so nice, she explained everything and did not try to have me purchase items that I did not want. Just from my experience working with Callaghan has made me want to plan my own cremation, so my family will have the same experience that I did.

I began preparing my own end-of-life plans and my consultant was great. She explained everything to me and my daughter and helped me select the option that was best for my family to say their goodbyes. What I was not expecting was for the memorial box, thank you cards, and other items to arrive in the mail during my lifetime. That rocked me a bit, but I put everything away, and my daughter and sister know where it is. Affordable and worth the time to reduce some stress on the family upon my death.

Not only did the Cremation Society take care of my sweet husband, but they took care of me as well. They arrived at 1:00 a.m. in the morning, were sensitive, polite and professional. When I went to their place of business, Tracy Hineman was a true treasure. She listened, explained and made me feel special. Tracy is so clam and caring to the family and has so much patience. I would absolutely recommend anyone to use their services.

I usually don’t leave reviews, but my family encouraged that I do. This started last month when I left a message to have a Funeral Director call me back. I did not hear back, I called again the next day and someone who stated she was the Office Manager (I still have her name written down)said she would have someone call me back. In the meantime my mother passed. I called the society with a nurse on speaker with me. The same person said she did let a funeral director know I had called. I told her my mother has now passed and I would like a call back. She said to let the nurse know I gave them

The Cremation Society of Virginia goes over and beyond your expectations in a time when you have a lot on your mind. Lori was very passionate and caring about my lost and took the stress away from me and took care of all of these details. I would recommend going to them for your loved ones and yourself to take that burden away from your loved ones. Also the two young men that came out to our house was very caring and made sure we had our time before they carried my wife away.

Lori was very kind and compassionate with me and my 92 year old mother when we came to her to discuss arrangements
after the death of my father. She went out of her way to ensure that we were comfortable and that we understood the process. The Cremation Society offered many services to assist us, over and above what I expected. I am so glad the hospice nurse recommended them to me.

Mr. Ronnie Elder..has made our Unexpected Life-Changing event to myself and my family as comforting and peaceful as possible. While the Cremations Society has fair pricing, the simple fact that all through the process I'm asked to give a positive review of the funeral director and the company with JD Powers just sits wrong with me. Then to receive a note after the fact asking again to review them highly makes me sick. The director also made promises and didn't want to stick to them until I reminded her of our service and needs. I'd recommend CS, just be aware they are all about sales tactics! Did not have a warm and fuzzy feeling and clearly felt like this funeral director shouldn't be in this business

The service and support we received here couldn't have been more respectful and friendly. We never felt taken advantage of or pressured. If you're not planning a traditional funeral service (they do not have a chapel that I saw) than this is the place you want to deal with. No lacy pillows. No frills. Just your loved one at peace.

Outstanding service by all. Kristan listened, explained everything. NO SURPRISES! Cost were fully covered and they made last minute changes by us immediately. When the need arises they will be our first choice.

I regret using this place to get my mother cremated, it has been a nightmare. While I was in Richmond, I had to get my mother's body sent over to this place from Blileys. I talked to Matt Lowery on the phone while I was in my hotel room, I told him I needed to call him back in a couple of minutes, and I asked which phone number to call him back and he told me (804)355-3360 I called back no longer than five minutes later, and a women picked up and wouldn't let me through to him she told me to leave a message. I finally got him to call me back and we set up a appointment to see my mother
