1952: The Michigan Tech Employees Federal Credit Union (MTEFCU), was founded by employees of Michigan Tech University, which used to be the Michigan Mining School. The intention of the credit union was to provide employees access to loans with reasonable interest rates. 1954: Our first annual business meeting was held in the Memorial Union Building (MUB) on campus.
1993: Our Board of Directors made the decision to construct a new building off campus, and they decided to build it up on the hill near the fire station and Houghton High School. 1994: We moved into our new building at 700 E Sharon Avenue, where we are located to this day. 2000: We merged with Pelkie Copper Country Community Credit Union, expanding our membership to include the communities of Houghton County, Keweenaw County, and Baraga Township.

Services
Coin Machine: Put all of your loose coin through it and easily redeem it for cash or deposit it to your account. There is a small fee for nonmember use. Credit Report Checkups: We'll do a soft-pull of your credit history (so it doesn't hurt your score) and go over it with you. Mobile Wallets: Our debit cards are now compatible with Apply Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay.
Below, you'll find all of our current promotions. If you have any questions about any of them, please reach out and we'll get back to you within one business day. If you have received a home loan or land loan through the MTEFCU, we invite you to take our Mortgage Experience Survey. Your responses will help us gauge our members' satisfaction and improve our service.
Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or regularly conducts business in Houghton, Keweenaw, or Baraga County. Although MTEFCU was established in 1952 by employees of the Michigan Technological University, you do not have to be affiliated with Michigan Tech University to become a member.
ACH Transfers allow you to securely transfer money between accounts at different financial institutions or two accounts at the same institution. They can be set up as one-time transfers or as recurring transfers, including loan payments. You can initiate this transfer at the MTEFCU or the other institution, whether you are transferring the funds to OR from your account with us.
Mark your card as lost and reorder a new card (for ATM/debit cards, we highly recommend coming in to receive an instant-issue card if you are in the area). Request a replacement card (again, for ATM/debit cards, we recommend coming in for an instant-issue card). Traveling: If you have our app, please update your travel notice under "Card Controls".

I have been a loyal member of MTEFCU for over 10 years and cannot recommend them enough. I love that every time I call I get a local agent who is so willing to help. At this point we know our lender personally as she has helped us buy two vehicles, secure a personal loan, and guided us through the home buying process.

Bank here at your peril. I am currently researching banks so I can close this account and move to another financial institution. Why am I doing this? After a bill pay issue where I had to send them screen shots to provide evidence of a functionality they didn't even know their website offered to holds on deposits, I dread having anything to do with the credit union. A check I deposited last night using the mobile app while visiting my mom in South Carolina posted faster than a check I put in the teller's hands to deposit 2 days ago. It's not even showing as a pending deposit. Go somewhere else
