The Whetstone family has been proudly serving the Vandalia and Butler Township communities for many years and are pleased to be able to offer this website to our families as an additional resource in their time of need. When Emerson Morton opened the Morton Funeral Home in 1941, he began a tradition of treating the families he served as if they were his own.
Today, we are grateful to Mr. Morton for the legacy he left behind, and for the opportunity to carry on this wonderful tradition of treating each family that we serve as if they are part of "our family". Pre-arranging your own service will help to ease the burden on your loved ones. It will also alleviate any questions, problems or differences, which can occur among family members.

When planning a service, you have many options available to you and we will do all that we can to provide a beautiful and respectful ceremony. No matter your choice, we can offer you a space to join with family and friends in grief, comfort and love. And above all, we will do our utmost to honor your loved one.
C. Emerson Morton founded the Morton Funeral Home in 1941. When Mr. Morton opened his doors for business, the population of Vandalia was only 600. In his first year of business, he handled 6 funerals for families in the community. Emerson and his wife Naomi, raised their children in the funeral home.
The Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home is located in the center of Vandalia on South Dixie Dr just 2 blocks south of National Rd. The funeral home sits on the west side of the street directly across from the Vandalia United Methodist Church. We are easily accessible from Interstate 70 and 75. Our facilities offer a clean, well maintained "home-like" atmosphere with modern decor, comfortable seating and a relaxing, peaceful environment.
When it comes to your final arrangements, shouldn't you make the decisions? The arrangements you make will reflect your exact wishes and desires. Pre-arranging your own service will help to ease the burden on your loved ones. It will also alleviate any questions, problems or differences, which can occur among family members.

Morton & Whetstone is a husband and wife family owned business with a calm and friendly lab. So it a relaxed environment and everyone is knowledgeable and detailed. This is normally a time when the customer may not be at their best. I knew it would be a military funeral at the Dayton VA, but there were many other details and their guidance from start to finish was invaluable. Costs were reasonable and explained. The attention to detail and calm kindness was amazing from start to finish. Thanks!
