Public Academy For Performing Arts
We are not here to create the stars of tomorrow; rather we are here to create a whole human being today. It was early in the year 2000 when a dream started coming together in the form of an Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) Charter School Application. A small group of community members, with the help and guidance of others, created a plan for a school where creative, talented students could grow and develop into master creative learners and beings.

The founders, Frank Butler, Joan Findley Perls, Kristina Lord Linde, Fred Pink, Bob Perls, and Valerie Scott created the first Mission Statement, Our mission is to create a New Mexico charter school that will provide an environment to develop an excellent academic and performing arts foundation for interested students. The PAPA Charter has been renewed three times, in 2005, 2010 and 2014.

Thank you to our volunteer officers for next year: Kat Abraham - President, Stephanie Cottrell - Vice President, Mary Ruth Olsen - Treasurer, and Theresa Palmer - Secretary. The staff at PAPA celebrates student success in academics and the performing arts. Our faculty prides themselves in offering the very best instruction available to public school students. Students are encouraged to select a rigorous set of courses. The more rigorous the course loads in high school, the more prepared students are for college and beyond.
Charter schools are nonsectarian public schools of choice that operate with freedom from many of the regulations that apply to traditional public schools. The "charter" establishing each such school is a performance contract detailing the school's mission, program, goals, students served, methods of assessment, and ways to measure success.
The Governing Council welcomes public comments during the "Public Comments" portion of the governing council meeting agenda. Individual oral presentations will be limited to 3 minutes, unless extended by the Council President. 1 Governing Council members are encouraged to attend all PAPA sponsored activities.
We are so excited about recent membership additions to the Performing Arts Academy Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to support the mission and goals of PAPA. PAPA would like to thank Su Hudson, Mark Goodman, and Liz Marshall for their dedicated service to the Foundation as they end their leadership terms.
