The Boone County Solid Waste Management District is responsible for implementing programs and educating Boone County residents to reduce, recycle or properly dispose of their residential waste. Through education and programming we enable residents to be responsible stewards of the environment while preserving public health in and around Boone County.
The District looks to the Citizen's Advisory Committee for input on District programming and needs within our communities. The committee is also responsible for providing recommendations to the Board for the District's annual budget and community grants programs. Each member is a Boone County resident and represents various areas of waste management, environmental business and in general, is an active citizen.

List of Electronics banned for being disposed of in an Indiana landfill: Televisions, Computer monitors, Computers (including desktops, laptops, and tablets), E-readers, Fax machines, Peripherals (including keyboards, mice, external hard drives, printers, all-in-one printer/scanner/copiers, projectors, and any other devices that are sold exclusively for external use with a computer and provide input into or output from a computer), DVD players (including gaming systems that are able to play DVDs), Digital photo frames, Digital media players, iPods/MP3 players, Camcorders/cameras, DVR/TiVo devices (including cable boxes and satellite boxes, but not satellite dishes), Portable GPS navigation systems.
The District provides a ClearStream recycling bin loan program that allows local event coordinators the opportunity to offer recycling to their patrons. The District has 50 bins that are available to lend. This program is free of charge and simple to use. 1. Contact the District office to find out the availability of bins for your event date & reserve the quantity of bins needed.
Why Dispose of Medications Properly? Don't Rush to Flush! Our residential septic systems and wastewater treatment plants are not designed to break down the chemicals that make up medications. Therefore, if we flush expired or unused medications, we can contaminate the creeks, rivers, lakes, wells and groundwater.

Latex paint is water based and therefore, non-toxic. Although, we want to limit the amount of items we send to the landfill, in this case it is safe to dispose of the latex paint in this manner. 1. See if there is a REUSE purpose for your leftover paint either in your own home or at a local non-profit organization.
