Our professional team of staff and volunteers know that a little support during a difficult time can go a long way. We empower individuals to find solutions and make healthy decisions. Dial Help is here to offer confidential, non-judgmental services for crisis support, mental health, and more. Dial Help was formed in 1971 by a group of citizens concerned about drug abuse.

From that original group of volunteers who manned the crisis line, we've grown into a non-profit organization of over 50 staff and volunteers offering a variety of services. The mission of Dial Help is to promote the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our communities. We accomplish this goal by providing problem assistance, crisis intervention, referrals, education, and training.
Services
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or military, marital, or financial status in any activities. 2015: Executive Director Rebecca Crane received Portage Health Foundation's Person of the Year Award.
This program offers follow-up support by phone call or text message for people dealing with suicide risk or loss, addiction, or complex crisis. Addiction is a disease that impacts everyone around the addicted person. We are now offering community presentations at businesses, agencies, and other groups in Houghton.
You can also include the name and address of a loved one of that person, and we will send a letter to notify them of the in memoriam donation. You have the right to be informed of Dial Help's mission, of the way we intend to use donated resources, and of our capacity to use donations effectively as intended.
We are very excited to share that long-term Dial Help volunteer Melissa Santini has won Grow & Lead's UP Service Award in the adult category for 2020! Melissa has been an invaluable asset to Dial Help, driving from Ontonagon each week (no matter the weather) to work on our crisis line. She began volunteering with the agency in 2015, and has answered over 800 calls.
Dial Help is part of the Beyond the Save (BtS) consortium, which is geared toward professionals in the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) field, including first responders, law enforcement, and treatment providers. BtS provides information/resources to address opioid misuse in the UP. Dial Help coordinates the UPSPC, an affiliation of professionals in the Upper Peninsula working in the suicide prevention field.
