Rainshadow Solar has been installing solar and other renewable energy systems since 1989. Operating from Orcas Island in the beautiful San Juan Islands, we specialize in design and installation of solar energy systems, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging systems. We provide solutions for both grid-tied and off-grid applications.

Services
Lower Bills - Lower or eliminate your electricity bill. Depending on your annual consumption and the space you have for a solar PV array, you could reduce your electricity charges to zero all 12 months of the year. For an average household in San Juan County that is an annual savings of over $1,000 at today's rates.
Peace of Mind - San Juan County relies on underwater transmission of electricity from the mainland and then overhead power lines to homes and businesses on the 20 islands with grid power. In the past year, there have been several planned and unplanned power outages. Backup power provides peace of mind to keep the lights on, as well as the fridge and freezer (and other "critical" loads).
The exemption applies for systems that produce at least 1kW and up to 100kW AC electricity. 100% of costs are eligible for the 8.1% (or more) sales and use tax exemption. More information is available here. The Renewable Energy Tax Credit commonly referred to as the Federal Tax Credit or ITC, provides a 26% federal tax credit in 2021 for residential and commercial solar installations.
We work with several banks and credit unions to help our customers implement their projects. In many cases, the energy savings substantially cover the loan payment. Islanders Bank, 360.360.2265 - Islanders Bank has been providing banking services in San Juan County for thirty years and offers Home Energy Improvement loans that include alternative energy and energy efficiency.

Justin and team are great to work with. I found them through the SunPower website as Rainshadow are a fully authorized dealer. I had done my research and decided on SunPower systems, and having a dealer on environmentally friendly Orcas Island, I felt that I could not go wrong. Meeting Justin confirmed that their environmental and social values were excellent, and they have proved to be excellent in all other aspects - constant communication and availability before, during and after the installation, as well as managing all the paperwork for the WA state incentive and getting PSE to install and

Rainshadow Solar did a great job on my solar system install on Orcas Island this summer (Aug 2016). They were very helpful from the initial design onward and provided several custom proposals to get started, then followed up with the installation and carried through to the commissioning. The staff were all very professional at each step along the way. The level of service was excellent, especially considering my system size was rather small (under 2 kW). Based on my very positive experience, I would recommend Rainshadow Solar to anyone with an interest in a solar application in the San Juans.
