Mountain Ear, Nose & Throat Associates was founded in 1985 when Benjamin Douglas, MD and Gregory W. Salyer, Au. D. relocated to the mountains of Western North Carolina. After developing a friendship while serving together in the Army, Dr. Salyer and Dr. Douglas decided to open their practices together to provide specialty services to an underserved area.

Allergy is an immune reaction to contact with some substance touched, inhaled or eaten. The patient's immune system reacts to this substance by forming a "defense" mechanism. This defense can affect the patient's quality of life. Substances that trigger an allergic response are known as "allergens".
If you have persistent inflammation or swelling of the tissues that line your sinuses, you could have a condition called chronic sinusitis. Under normal circumstances, your sinuses are full of air, but when they get blocked and filled with fluid, viruses, bacteria, or fungi can accumulate there and lead to a sinus infection.

I had the balloon sinus procedure performed by Dr. Benjamin Douglas in September 2018. After suffering with sinus headaches, infections, pressure. and post nasal drip for over twenty years, I finally have some relief! It's only been a few weeks and I can breathe. The procedure opened up my sinuses, relieved pressure and somehow even reduced my post nasal drip. The procedure itself was not painful at all. Afterwards, I didn't even need anything for pain and could notice an improvement almost immediately! Dr. Benjamin and his staff were so pleasant and helpful and I feel like I got excellent care
