In the early 1900's Grandpa Carl Erickson came from Norway to start a commercial fishing business in Knife River, MN. In the 30's he saw the need for tourist accommodations and built Island View Resort. Island View is now owned by Carl's grandson Bob and his wife Sheryl. Bob grew up in Cabin #7.
Construction of the cabins was started in the late 1930's and all 10 cabins plus the shower house (which is now our office) were complete in the late 40's.The resort was originally called "Pine Ridge Cabins." Grandpa Carl and Grandma Roseina Erickson along with family built and ran the resort until 1969 when their Aunt Jackie and Uncle Hans Ojard bought the resort and operated it.

We love the Island View. We've stayed here over the last few Thanksgivings plus a few times in the summer and it's always very clean and quiet, even the times every cabin is booked. We prefer Cabin 9. It's perfect for two and has a kitchen just well equipped enough to put out a modest Thanksgiving feast :) bonuses: really affordable and you can bring your dog! Skip if you're sloppy - they do expect you to clean before you go.

Super clean & cozy cabins. Bob is so nice & helpful, property is well cared for. Cabin had no air conditioning which thankfully only effected us one day of our stay. This property is not located directly on the lake, you have to drive a short distance to access it. Nearest stores & restaurants are a 20 minute drive. Very quite and peaceful area. Be sure to bring everything you might need.

Life is good at the cabin!
After camping near Jay Cooke, we had a few days to ourselves and decided to book three nights at Island View. Cabin 2 was just perfect for my husband and me (we booked a cabin with an extra bed in case our friend could make it, but it ended up being just the two of us). From the adorable kitchenette, complete with vintage dishes, to the lovely Lake Superior views, it's a perfect place to throw open the windows and enjoy an old-fashioned Minnesota summer.

My husband and I went to Duluth for the day and decided to stay for the night in Cabin #3. Pricing is fair and definitely worth it, I feel like it’s 100% better than renting a hotel room for the night. The views are just to die for. There is fully stocked kitchens, which was an absolute plus for us! We enjoyed a community bonfire around sunset with some other travelers, it was amazing and so much fun.
The beds are comfy and with cracking the windows open you can hear the waves crashing.
Bob and Sheryl also have tons of dvds for you to enjoy!
They are amazing hosts and I recommend anyone to

The owners are incredibly kind and fair. The area is beautiful and all the cabins were so quaint and cozy. We stayed in cabin 2 and had everything we needed (linens, cooking utensils, pots, pans, even salt and pepper!). The area is near so many hiking trails, state and national parks, great restaurants, and there's fast food and a gas station not too far away either. It's the perfect spot for some rest and relaxation. I highly recommend and we will be returning!

This place is INCREDIBLE! My husband , my one year old son and I stayed in cabin 2 this last weekend and it was so cute and cozy and very clean!! The amazing owners work hard to ensure you have a good stay. We seen him getting the community fire pit all ready so we took advantage and even had a nice fire with the sound of the shores in the background. The best part was waking up to the lake view! We will be coming back that is certain!

My wife and I have been coming to Island View Resort since 2005. We have had all of our three children here and it is a wonderful place. Bob is amazing and has always been a top notch keeper. The cabins are rustic but super cute, great view in the mornings, safe for kids, animal friendly. We have stayed four times and plan many more in the future. Short drive north to the great views of Two Harbors, the falls and Split Rock Light House, drive just south Duluth. Best location to get it all in.

My daughters and I stayed here a few nights this July. Run by a husband and wife team. The former was helpful and friendly; the latter was the opposite. It was a decent time but there are plenty of newer, larger, cheaper, more private cabins with Wi-Fi in the area directly on the lake if you plan ahead and book early.

We stayed in the smallest (two person) cabin this summer with our two small dogs. It was so adorable! They supplied everything you need. Utensils, toiletry, towels, dish soap, etc. There is a charcoal grill, just bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid. There is also a stove/oven with refrigerator if you want to do more in-depth cooking. TV with DVD player supplied for those rainy days. There is a full bathroom, albeit fitting for a smaller cabin, it worked wonderfully for us. Bonus: very clean and well-maintained cabins.
