If you're looking for long term care insurance, keep FAR away from Riversource!
They have denied my elderly mother's claim after she's been paying on her policy since 1998. We confirmed that she meets the qualifications and now 32 days after appealing based on her qualifying, they have stalled and won't give us an answer.
Meanwhile her long-term care costs are adding up and she has limited income.
We can't get anyone above the contact person to speak with. The time and effort I've put into trying to help my mom is now likely going to require to start legal actions

We were with Ameriprise for over 5 years and decided to change financial advisors and institutions.
I just received my last Portfolio statement with Ameriprise had a $125 "termination fee" listed.
However, reading through my statement, I find that they hit me with this $125 fee PER ACCOUNT. We had 5 accounts. They charged us $600 in total as a "termination fee".
Funny....I don't recall RECEIVING $600 to join them, so I find this fee preposterous and unprofessional.
You would think that after a 5+ year relationship; and advisor fees to match; they might waive

You learn a lot about investment companies when it's time to transfer your money from them to another company. Not impressed with the level of service and clear communication from Ameriprise. Requiring multilpe calls to get the account transferred. Unnecessary. Unimpressive customer service. Thankfully I've had only a small account with them. Would not put lots of money in the hands of this company.

As I'm withdrawing my Rollover IRA from these bunch of crooks, they hit me with a $75 Custodial Fee when I had exactly $275 left in the account. You should avoid them like the plague, my financial advisory was absolutely tone deaf when it came to listening to me and my desire to avoid the Pandemic Meltdown. As others have said, save yourself the frustration and STAY FAR, FAR AWAY!!!!

Moved my IRA from Ameriprise to Wells Fargo. Ameriprise charges a lot of money for the pleasure of holding your money in a cash account. On Mar 23 was charged $75.00 for their annual custodial charge, which btw is in "advance". On April 14, was charged $175.00 for a "transfer charge"... seems a couple of "mouse clicks" costs $ 175.00. I wanted a partial refund of the $75.00 custodial fee since they only held the money for 3 weeks. Of course, nada, zip, nothing.... THAT IS WHY WE ARE MOVING OUR ACCOUNT TO WELLS FARGO WHICH WILL CHARGE US NOTHING FOR MY IRA.

AVOID. I wish I had not moved my IRA to Ameriprise. In the end they made money ($500 yr, plus 1% on balance, plus money on selected investments) and I lost dollar value during a BOOMING stock market trend. It took 2 months battle to transfer my money out and it would have been longer if I hadn't contacted Better Business Bureau. They also charge a move out fee.
These people are liars, and protected within laws apparently. I recommend everyone complain to Better Business Bureau. Do not believe ANYTHING they tell you. You can move your money out - no matter what they say.

My wife and I have had IRA accounts with Ameripirse for several decades. The funds have greatly under-performed our other IRAs, but that is not the reason for my complaints.
It has taken five phone calls (after filling out the required paperwork) to transfer my funds out of Ameriprise and over to my primary IRA. The phone calls averaged 30 minutes. My last call was to ask why the funds transferred were $124.75 less than showing in my account when it was closed. Apparently, there is a $125.00 transfer fee, but the good news is I earned $0.25 interest in the approximately one month it took to make

What a terrible experience for a larger company. Shame on them!
I'll keep it to the key points:
1) Suggested I put 50% of my money in their annuity which was one of the worst performing, but would give my advisor a big commission.
2) Asked them where the annuity ranked. They said top 25%. Fact - it was bottom 25%.
3) Wanted me to put other 50% in their mutual funds with higher loads and under performing. I said, why not ETF's with lower costs? No answer.
4) Best for last. Advisor wanted me to transfer all our money to them before I got anything in writing to review.
I fired them!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I signed up for auto insurance through my Costco membership. They will pretend to take care of you until you actually have a claim. My premium more than quadrupled due to an accident. My premium went from $588 for 6 months in July of 2015, to $1,666 for 6 months in January of 2016. Now I have received a bill for $2,874.87 for 6 months in July 2016! Ameriprise tells me it is due to 'rate changes' in California??? Ameriprise is dishonest and uses unfair business practices. My next stop is the insurance commission. It's one thing to decide they don

My advice is to stay away. When you first meet with them, they make you feel like there will be a team of people working on your account. During my initial meeting, there were 4-5 people from Ameriprise. Your "advisor" lays out a calendar of quarterly touch points -- two in person, two over the phone. Aside from our initial meeting, I never saw my advisor in person. And last year, he called me once -- at the end of December.
But the main reason I left is because I was paying high fees to have no one watch my money. Between fees and bad advice, I would have been better off keeping

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU EXPECT A QUICK, SEAMLESS, NO HASSLE PAYMENT FOR LIFE INSURANCE. My father died and left a policy he had paid on for years. All requested forms and documents were submitted as indicated. Ameriprise did not produce payment after a month. I phoned their offices and was told the claim forms were not submitted in a complete manner. They would not accept two separate claim forms for the beneficiary signatures. Both beneficiary's of the policy live in separate parts of the country and wanted to expedite payment by providing two separate signature claim forms for the

Awful service.
After having ignored my account for a number of years (I'm a long-term investor), I called my "financial advisor" with some questions. Neither he, his boss nor his boss's boss bothered to contact me--this, despite that just about every month for the last few years I've received a call from the advisor to "call us anytime with questions! The team is here to service you!" Bottom line: when you really need their assistance, all you hear is crickets until you make a big stink and then all you get are lame excuses (followed by an even lamer form

Do not under any circumstances purchase life ins from Ameriprise Financial. This company does NOT want you to collect. Both in-laws passed away in 2014. There was a $5,000 policy on my mom in law that goes to the estate. We have gotten the run around since January when we submitted the claim. Not only are you still grieving your loss but now you have to perform surgery to get your money. To date they have everything they need from us but one item. We were told multiple times they had everything and it was on the managers desk for release of funds. Finally was told they needed this final

I worked with a company called Clearfork Wealth Management out of Fort Worth, TX who is affiliated with Ameriprise to be my money manager for 2014. While very likable people, my overall returns for the year were very poor when compared to the market indices (about 2% ROI vs the 10-15% for the major indices). So, I decided to terminate my relation with them. I was really chapped when Ameriprise charge me a $100/account (I had several accounts) 'transfer' fee to move my funds back to Schwab where they had originally been. I found Ameriprise to be very slow to get things done.
