It is our mission at Anderson Woods to provide safe and dignified camping opportunities to children and adults with Special Needs. We provide a unique learning experience in a nature filled camp setting. We are excited to share that Anderson Woods is back in session for the 2021 camp season! We are offering four sessions during the month of July for adult campers (those 18 years of age and older).

We are also still in need of volunteers 16 years of age and older. We can't wait for the many adventures and memories ahead! Join in on the fun! Nestled along its namesake, the Anderson River in rural Southern Indiana, Anderson Woods was founded in 1978, and is a private, not-for-profit corporation chartered to provide summer camp experiences, as well as other services, for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Services
For 43 summers Anderson Woods Summer Camp has been providing unique outdoor and social experiences to children and adults with special needs. David & Judy Colby shared a vision of providing an experience that would foster self-esteem and empower these Special Ones to fulfill the potential within. They purchased the first property for camp in 1975, and in 1978 the first campers arrived.
The camp fee is $205 per session. We have limited need-based camperships available for campers requiring financial assistance. Please print and return the completed application by mail to the address on the upper right corner of the application. Limited need-based camperships are available for campers requiring financial assistance.
Visit our staff page for more information on becoming a staff member or volunteering at camp. To apply for a Volunteer or Staff opportunity for the 2021 camp season all persons interested must be 16 years of age or older. If you or someone you know is interested in joining us this summer as a staff member or volunteer, complete the appropriate application and mail to the address listed on the top of the application.
Toward that end the first several summers of camp were multi-week sessions that emphasized life skills such as cooking and washing laundry. While we are fortunate to now have a full-time cook that prepares our meals, and we no longer teach campers how to wash their clothes, every activity in which campers participate is intended to provide opportunity for growth.
Our barnyard friends have included a variety of animals over the years such as sheep, peacocks, chickens, goats, donkeys, bunnies, kittens, etc. We have also had the pleasure of enjoying horses, llamas and a pot-bellied pig, named Beans, at Anderson Woods Summer Camp. The campers enjoy small therapeutic interactions with the animals such as feeding, cuddling, and brushing.

My son loves this camp. This is the 5th year he has attended. The people there are great and the cost is reasonable. I just wish it was longer.
