Lake Geneva became a vacation destination for Chicago's wealthy in the early 1870s. It was a way to get away from the city and enjoy life on a large lake with crystal clear water. Visitors from the crowded city enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, and simply breathing in the fresh country air. In 1871, two events changed the course of history for both Chicago and Lake Geneva.
Many people hopped on a train to get out of the city, with some coming to Lake Geneva to find a safe haven. Many of those people had lost their homes in the fire and stayed in Lake Geneva through the winter waiting for their homes to be rebuilt. After staying for that length of time, a number of them decided to make the lake a regular vacation spot, leading to more large estates being constructed along the lakeshore.

Lake Geneva Cruise Line offers unique catering choices for your special occasion or private event. Selections range from an extravagant plated or buffet dinner to an informal setting of heavy hors d'oeuvres for the more social party. The choices are endless. For table service charters, there is a $3.50 per person charge for tables, chairs, linens, and candles.

It was a great holiday experience. I have wanted to take this cruise for years but I was afraid the weather would not cooperate. It was wonderful, warm on board and a smooth ride. I will definitely be back next year regardless of the temperature or snow.

Took the Ice Cream Social Boat Tour with Lake Geneva Cruise Line today. It was a picture perfect day for a calm, leisurely, informative and delicious 😍 tour of Lake Geneva! Accommodations are very nice on the boat. Seating options include an outdoor space with chairs at the stern of the boat that’s covered (for shade), an outdoor space with chairs at the bow of the boat in full sun, and a larger, air conditioned indoor space with tables. In addition to the delicious ice cream, there is a full bar service available. The 90-minute narrated tour is very interesting and tells you about the history

A friend and I took the Whole Lake Cruise. It was wonderful! The boat was very nice! The trip lasts two hours during which we learned about the local history and saw all the amazing houses (mansions!) on the lake. The crew was friendly and professional and the narration was excellent! There are also refreshments available onboard if you get thirsty. This wasn't my first cruise with LGCL, but it was my friend's first trip to the area and I highly recommend this if you have never been to Lake Geneva before! The half-lake tour is also very nice and better if you have young kids who might not be happy

Our second cruise with friends. This time with 21 of us. The crew was fantastic, the boat was comfortable and we did not feel crowded. The food was not as good as when we were on the cruise in 2019. My table was second last to go to the buffet table and they were out of fresh fruit, bacon for the omelets and no biscuits for the gravey. The fruit from what I observed did not look very ripe (especially the watermelon and honeydew).
