My name is Jennifer and I'm a Licensed Landscape Architect in North Carolina, South Carolina & Colorado. I'm also a Master Gardener, Master Composter, and a Permaculture Design Certificate Holder. I teach classes at the North Carolina Arboretum and have taught at conferences across the country. Ever since I can remember I have passionately been involved in landscaping and environmental work.
I chose to go to the University of Massachusetts to study Landscape Architecture, and to finish my degree at California Polytechnic State University. I decided to travel around South America with a friend after college, and while there, had the opportunity to work on an organic farm north of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

BareRoot Designs, PLLC works primarily in Asheville offering landscape design and consulting services for residential and small scale commercial developments. Every residential landscape design project starts with a detailed consultation. In addition, we provide a site analysis and a discussion of your vision for the space and potential options. After that, we dive into design and provide the following. A thoughtful design creates relationships between plants based on color, shape, texture, mood and companion planting.
We offer professional Commercial Landscape Architecture services in Asheville and hold a NC Landscape Architecture license. BareRoot designs does site planning and design as well as master planning. In addition, we create landscape plans that are ADA & zoning compliant. Construction drawings and specifications are part of the commercial landscape design process.
BareRoot Designs offers both residential and commercial landscape plans for contractors and landscape contractors. Above all, we can save you time and money by becoming your sub-contracted landscape design team. With over 10 years of industry experience, we've worked with landscape contractor teams of all sizes and specialities.
BareRoot Designs offers Permaculture Design Consulting and Garden Consulting. Our experts can listen to your vision and help turn a new or existing landscape into a sustainable productive system. I recently moved into a new home on a lot that lacked any landscaping other than weeds. I was in need of a plan for the entire space and Jennifer at BareRoot Designs was the first designer I contacted for help. She made my decision easy because after an initial consultation, I was confident she was who I wanted to work with and there was no need to call anyone else.
Jennifer came up with a design that used stonework to highlight some of my favorite plants and made suggestions for additional trees and shrubs to form a cohesive plan around the house. She was flexible, professional and a very enjoyable

Jennifer created an amazing design for both our front and back yard! She was incredibly helpful, offered design options that were both beautiful and functional/native, and incorporated all of the requests that we had. We get compliments from our neighbors all of the time, and feel so lucky to watch the already beautiful landscape mature and fill in. Highly recommend!
