Founded in 2001, New Ballet Ensemble and School (NBE) is a thriving after school dance program in the heart of Midtown Memphis, (Cooper-Young). Five out of six salaried Teaching Artists and Trainees grew up through involvement with New Ballet since childhood, and, through the Professional Development Trainee Program, have become key staff, ushering programming to Shelby County Schools, including those they attended as children.
New Ballet collaborates with education partners through school residencies and invests in other active community partnerships to reach students and audiences of all ages where they are.

This is an amazing school! Founded by Mrs. Katie Smythe, it has an excellent staff that is professionally knowledgeable of all genres of dance. Everyone is so friendly and courteous. When you walk in the door, you will be greeted by Mrs. Cathy, the delightful administrative secretary. This is a wonderful school for any child to explore their creativity. Dances taught are ballet, tap, hip-hop, and many more. There also is a learning room for the kids to do their homework before practice or just interact. In November, I look forward to their annual production of the "Nut Remix " at the Cannon Center
