Opportunities Credit Union
As a Low-Income Credit Union, Opportunities has been helping Vermonters cope with financial emergencies for 30 years. You can help us by becoming a Social Investor. Buy a Social Investor 0% CD and your deposit will be insured up to $250,000. Our counseling department is still operational, and available our normal business hours 8:00 am -5:00 pm.

All counseling services are now remote instead of in-person until further notice. If you are a Vermonter seeking housing right now, it's tough. If seeking a place that accommodates mobility impairments, one has to get creative. For one Vermonter, that meant turning to social media: Jill Allen put together the facebook page "Find Jyll A Home In Vermont", to do just that, but also raise awareness about.

I have been working with the folks at OCU for about three years and have been continually impressed by their operation and commitment to their customers. Also have referred folks to their Money Sense program several times and have received very positive feedback from those I have referred. The opportunity for individuals to receive one on one financial counseling free of charge by qualified individuals is tremendous especially these days when managing personal finances is more complicated than ever. THANK YOU OCU and staff for serving our community!!

I hate online banking with Opportunity credit union. Their mobile app is extremely slow, and full of bugs. Remote deposit takes at least 4-5 tries before it's successful. And most times, you can't view an image of your deposit (It says image not available). There are so many things that drives a user crazy with their app. I want my online banking experience to be secure but also intuitive. OCU app is anything but intuitive. Beside their online app, their hours are limited, requires longer wait, and phone support is limited. Not sure why my wife chose this bank but I urge everyone to avoid this

These wonderful people saved us!! We were buried in debt and I swear these guys work miracles! Jon Goffe does AMAZING work, left me feeling on top of the world after tackling our mound of debt! Also have to give a shout out to Mr. Jonathan Brooks for helping out BIG TIME in the process! Feels good to be able to pay things off on my credit report to only put my family in a better financial situation to buy our first home!!! If you are looking for one on one personal banking then this is the EXACT place you want to be, you won’t regret it! Can’t say enough good things about this place :)

Don't trust these vultures with any personal financial information if you are seeking help with refinancing, a loan modification, or if you need help of any kind with re-structuring your current mortgage to get more affordable loan payments.

I was referred to the CU, specifically Andrea Heller, by VT Legal Aid for possible assistance with the latter listed above. She is supposedly a specialist who helps people restructure debt and analyzes whether or not the CU could offer a mortgage refinance. When I discussed my current situation with her, I explained that I have a variable interest

Jon has been beyond amazing with repairing my credit. I went from being completely hopeless to better than ever. I had some very worrisome problems with my credit that I did not think could be fixed, and John worked his magic! I am so excited to buy my first home! If you have any problems with your credit, Jon is the guy to see. He can help you get on the right path and set you up for success.

I’ve been working with Opportunities Credit Union for the past few years and have always had a great experience! The financial educator, Jon taught me many valuable lessons about getting my credit on track and vastly reducing my debt. I highly recommend banking with OCU! They were there when I needed help and have been working with me every step of the way.

I sought consultation at OCU for some advice on improving my credit, loan consolidation as well as to discuss first time home buying options. I have to say, Jon G. knows like everything there is to know about what programs there are, tips on improving credit and is patient and understanding and made sure I fully understood the process. I'm not located in their area so he even took the time to call a credit union local to me to find out their rates and it turned out their rates were actually terrible!

I would absolutely recommend this credit union to anyone looking for a mortgage and/or for

The absolute worst organization of any kind, I have ever dealt with. We had a small loan, for an insulating project on a rental property. I had been making the loan payment ($89 per month ) regularly, when I received a call, saying they didn't know what account to credit. This was odd, as there was a payment slip ( from a booklet provided ) in each payment. After a couple more months , I received the same call. I asked where this money had been going, and was told to wait until they figured it out. I heard nothing for several months, only to find I had been reported to a credit agency as delinquent

Like always the people at the counter were very rude and unprofessional. They could not fill out a simple form for my mortgage. They kept insisting they don’t do that. Had to call my loan agent and they never heard of a bank saying that! Get it together already. I’ve been struggling with this bank for years and after this last time I’m pulling all of my money and going elsewhere. This place is ridiculous.

I have had an account with this bank for over a year. I switched my account from another bank to them, because I am in a wheelchair, and the bank is right across the driveway from me. Thought it would be safer than trying to cross East Allen street to get to TD Bank.
I recently had to report my debit card as lost/stolen. I went to get a new card, and they want $20 + to replace it! Very expensive bank to use. I can understand charging for a new card if someone was a frequent flyer at losing their card, but if it has been lost or stolen, you already feel awful, and having to spend that kind of money

Too new. Too inexperienced.
Not sure whether it is growing pains or the people they hire are not trained well, but every time a relatively simple question is asked, their “Tellers” cannot seem to give a straight answer, as a first response. They always have to double check and it takes forever - like forever. Then the answer is so convoluted, asking for clarification is more of a time sink! It’s frustrating. I tried my best to give them my business, but their business is supposed to be banking, and they are ill prepared to do so in a quick, efficient, and correct manner. Their WOW checking

We had heard that OCU specialized in first time home purchase mortgages, so we specifically sought them out.
Our experience with them has been terrible. Their loan officer (Tim Carpenter) rarely responds to our inquiries and doesn't seem to know any of the specific details about what programs are available.
Overall I would not recommend going through this bank for your mortgage.
