At Holmgreen Mortuary, we are committed to providing the comfort and support you need, guiding you on what is often the most difficult journey of your life, every step of the way.
Just as our founder, the late James E. Holmgreen, pledged to this community more than 60 years ago, we continue to serve each family with a sincere sense of dedication and are humbled to be entrusted with the most important responsibility of honoring and celebrating each life that has been lived. With this same humility, we invite you to learn more about us and the services we provide by touring our website.

Services
Our mortuary was founded in 1909 by O. H. Moyer in a time when funeral directors were called "undertakers" and many visitations and wakes were held in family homes. Back then, our establishment was called the Moyer Mortuary and even after Mr. Moyer's death in 1948, his wife Etta continued operations, hiring a young funeral director - James E. Holmgreen - who had gone to mortuary school in Dallas after returning from World War II.
At Holmgreen Mortuary, we take great pride in caring for our families, and will work tirelessly to provide you with a beautiful, lasting tribute to your loved one. In addition to the services we offer, you will receive an online memorial that you can share with family and friends. While honoring your loved one is our top priority, we also want to help you through this difficult time.
Just as each person and family is unique, so is each funeral or memorial service. We believe that a visitation and funeral or memorial service should be about the person whose life has ended, and meaningful to those who remain. Families and friends have the opportunity to come together to share a sense of loss, to offer support, and to remember and acknowledge the life of someone they loved.
When it comes to your final arrangements, shouldn't you make the decisions? The arrangements you make will reflect your exact wishes and desires. Pre-arranging your own service will help to ease the burden of your loved ones. It will also alleviate any questions, problems or differences, which can occur among family members.
Meaningful memorialization of a loved one's passing can transform, heal, and comfort us. It highlights our loved ones' sacrifices, reminds us of the things that they value, and inspires us with their life stories. Have the Talk of a Lifetime, a program created by The Funeral and Memorial Information Council, was designed to help families have meaningful conversations about the things that matter most in their lives.

I’m from out of state, but my dad passed and this place did a phenomenal job with him. They are so caring and kind. They really are so sweet and make going through such a hard time a little more bearable. They went out of their way to help me do what I needed to cope. I can’t say enough good things about this place or thank them enough. Thank you holmgreen! Thank you so much for taking care of my daddy.

Losing a husband and father is one of the most difficult and overwhelming things one will ever experience, and we are so thankful for the Rudel family and all the staff at the Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. Thank you for going above and beyond for our family, especially our Mom. Your attention to detail and hospitality made this difficult transition of life a little easier for us by alleviating all the stress and welcoming us as if we were in your home. Thank you for making us feel as if we were family and not customers your generosity is greatly appreciated and it will never be forgotten.

5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had my father’s services there on 8/21. I am very grateful for the staff and how professional they were. They helped to plan a beautiful service and took a lot of stress off of my mother. They helped to honor my father with a beautiful experience. My family and I were all very grateful and impressed. Thank you Holmgreen:)
