Our story began in 1958, when C.R. Smith started drilling water wells in Woodland Park, CO. After a time he made his way to Gilpin County and for a while drilled wells in both locations. Preferring Gilpin County, he bought some property - the same property that our company is located on today.
C.R.'s son Frank worked with his dad on and off throughout his childhood, and in 1978 he talked his dad into buying a new drill rig and he took over the well drilling completely. He's still at it today, along with his wife Anne and their son's David and Adam. We are one of the very few companies that not only drill the well but install, replace, and repair the submersible pumps and pump systems that are part of your water supply.

Services
Drilling a quality well takes time, patience, hard work, and attention to details. We know, because we've been drilling wells since 1958, and we know what it takes to drill a quality well. Driller Frank Smith learned the craft of drilling from his father C.R, who started drilling in 1958 (see About Us).
The Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR), also known as the Office of the State Engineer, administers water rights and issues water well permits. Mountain water wells require a 6-8 foot deep underground water line to prevent freezing in the winter. Though we install the lines, professional excavation is required to dig trenches deep enough to accommodate these lines.

Never could get the phone answered or a callback.
They did the original well and it was eye-opening the data from the new guys. The original well was listed as 175 deep with water at 90ft pump at 150ft. Pump size 1/2hp7gpm..... the actual well depth is 250ft with the pump at 230ft. Looked up on the charts and minimum size should have been 3/4hp7gpm, but that was at the edge of the curves.... we used a 1hp10gpm this time as it was cheaper than the 3/4hp.

We’ve worked with and along side CR Smith many times and have always had a pleasant experience and been very impressed with their work ethic and professionalism. They get the job done. Also Frank will water witch the best location for the well and even let you try it. It’s amazing how it actually works and you can see it and do it for yourself.

I have been calling for months now to get someone to come out and give me a well proposal for a property in Silver Plume. I have left messages with Anne and spoke with her . I spoke with a make that said call him back three weeks ago and I have called back and emailed with no return calls. Very frustrated. Im guessing they don't want to drill my well.
