The Ithaca Ballet, under the direction of Cindy Reid, is Upstate New York's only repertory company and is the resident ballet company at the beautiful State Theatre in downtown Ithaca. Founded in 1961, it is also the oldest continuously performing arts group in Tompkins County. The Ithaca Ballet's mission is sharing the art of classical dance with the widest audience possible in upstate New York.
In this unprecedented year the time-honored tradition of the Ithaca Ballet Nutcracker will happen in a creative new form-live streamed with your favorite characters in innovative Ithaca friendly landscapes. The story of Clara and her magical tale through the battles of the Mouse King and the Nutcracker, the Land of Snow into the Land of the Sweets all danced to the beloved music of Peter Tchaikovsky.
Purchase tickets online at the Hangar Theatre website, call 607-273-ARTS, or visit the Hangar Theatre's box office (locations and times listed here). Group tickets not available. Because the Hangar Theatre box office can be very busy before our performances, we strongly recommend purchasing tickets early to be sure that you are seated before the show begins.
From September through June, the Ballet Center offers a comprehensive program of ballet instruction for dancers aged 4 to adult. During the summers, an intensive summer dance program is available for dancers from 8-18 years and evening classes are available for adults. We will continue to offer only half-day sessions. More advanced dancers (probably levels 6-10) will have 3 classes 9:00 am - 12:30 pm; less advanced dancers (probably Elementary 1- level 5) will be offered 2 classes 1:00-3:30 pm. Placement in morning or afternoon session will depend on enrollment and is at the discretion of the director.
