Camp Mah-Kee-Nac
Located in the heart of the Berkshires, Camp Mah-Kee-Nac is an overnight camp for boys in Lenox, Massachusetts. The spirit of Mah-Kee-Nac lies in a strong commitment to our community, where campers and staff feel supported, challenged and encouraged to participate in an action-packed day of sports, outdoor adventure, waterfront, media and the arts.

Through these activities and our elective-based program, campers build confidence by experiencing success. Our boys discover the power of their true selves and the individual role they play as part of the greater community. To us, community over everything is what makes Mah-Kee-Nac extraordinary.
Services
Camp Mah-Kee-Nac was founded in 1929 by camping great, Joe Kruger, on the shores of Lake Mahkeenac, now called Stockbridge Bowl in Lenox, Massachusetts. Joe was a pioneer in camping and was among the first directors to implement a systematic, education-based approach to the summer camp experience. Joe's vision is still alive at Mah-Kee-Nac and our philosophy, program and physical layout still reflect his child-centered vision.
Rachel and Jamie Chadwin have spent the greater part of their lives at overnight camp as campers, counselors, athletic/program directors, assistant directors, and now Co-Directors. They each bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to Camp Mah-Kee-Nac.

Jamie and Rachel began dating as camp counselors, graduated college, eventually married, and returned to camp together to pursue not only a career but the most meaningful life for their family.Rachel, in addition to some years of teaching middle school, has been involved in camping for the greater part of her career.
Camp Mah-Kee-Nac is nestled in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts on the Stockbridge Bowl (aka Lake Mahkeenac). MKN is the only camp on our water, making the six-mile long lakefront a very private amenity for our boys to enjoy endless water sports and activities.

Only two and a half hours from the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area and approximately two hours from Boston, we are privileged to be in an area that offers a great sense of culture and often take advantage of our surroundings.Between the Tanglewood music venue, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Norman Rockwell Museum, Lenox Massachusetts has something to offer the whole family.
Many of our boys who attend Camp Mah-Kee-Nac take full advantage of the variety of activities that we have to offer. While they might be very busy with athletics or extracurriculars at home, they recognize that camp is a place where they can ALSO comfortably explore many other interests such as our waterfront sports, our MAK Adventure program, and our Media and Arts programs.
The environment MKN creates is one in which our boys learn a strong sense of community, where the gestures of openhandedness is encouraged within and to others. Camp Sea Stars North is a trauma-informed summer camp opportunity for the children of the Newton/Sandy Hook community. Mah-Kee-Nac staff volunteer their time to work as bunk staff, program instructors and special event planners to make this experience possible.

Was the youngest camper at age 7. I spent 7 summers and loved each and every one.

I was a female staff member at Camp Mah Kee Nac, and it was the best experience I have ever had. The campers are amazing, the staff great and you won't be disappointed. I have now worked here for two summers and it has truly been the most amazing time!

I have gone there for 3 years and soon going for my 4th. The staff is very caring and helpful. I thought I would get homesick my first year but I had so much fun It felt like this was my home. All of the special events are really fun and enjoyable and the same with the every day activities. And also, the food is AMAZING. Can’t wait to go back.

Sadly this camp is not what it used to be. The new directors are not impressive, very arrogant and do not have a child's best interest in mind. There are much better camp choices...this is not worth the large investment.

Our 14 year old son will be entering his 5th year at MKN after attending another camp for 2 years where things didn't work out. There are not enough words to describe how fantastic MKN is. Our son is by far his best self during the 7 weeks at MKN each summer. They teach him life lessons and skills that I know will carry him into manhood. I LOVE THIS PLACE! It truly is EXTRAORDINARY!! The directors are attentive and know the kids. They hire amazingly good staff members who bond with their boys and make each summer an experience that our son lives for the other 10 months of the year. If you could

The safest camp operation I have ever seen. The system to enter and leave the lakefront is world class. The training staff members receive is second to none in the camping industry.

Very disappointing experience. Our child was homesick, and the remedy they chose to employ was to give up and send him home. Not sure what kind of summer camp does that, but we obviously won't be back and I'd suggest looking elsewhere if you're looking for a place that can handle a kid who might get homesick.

I can't say enough good things about this camp. My son started going there 3 years ago. We had a plan of sending him for 3 weeks and he ended up staying for the whole summer. When you get letters home saying "Thank you for sending me here" and "This is the most amazing place" you know you are in good hands. The directors and entire staff really make this camp a "home" for the summer. There are many summer camps out there, but it is the creativity of the staff that make Mah Kee Nac a stand out. The programs and special events that they put on and take place every week continue to surprise and astound

Writing not as a customer but as an observer. This camp does NOT operate safely on Stockbridge Bowl. Their staff drives around the lake recklessly with kids onboard water craft. Please for their own safety do NOT send your kids to this camp. Multiple complaints from other boaters on the lake.

An amazing camp. It is exactly what summer camp should be. My son just finished his 2nd year there and can't wait to go back next year. He is building such amazing friends, the kids and the staff such good people. The regular activities and special events they put on are incredible. Even the food gets rave reviews. They take such good care of the kids. They get to try new activities and gain a new independence. The directors and staff are so attentive and amazing for both parents and the boys.
Couldn't recommend Mah-Kee-Nac enough.
