Welcome to the Judith Svalander School of Ballet, home of the Judith Svalander Dance Theatre, resident dance company of the Woodstock Opera House. In this unique suburban school, completely dedicated to the development of well-balanced performers through dance, the student has the opportunity to enrich their life through professional training combining the skills and the joy of movement and music.
JSSB is a ballet school that honors the teaching of classical ballet as the premier training of young children. We use techniques founded in the major classical ballet styles of the Italian and French to begin; as training advances, the school incorporates the English, Danish (Bournonville), and Russian methods.

Services
JSSB's 2020-2021 session is underway, and all of us are filled with joy at seeing our students back in our studio. This accomplishment would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of JSSB's faculty and staff, who are working harder than ever to continue providing exceptional ballet training to our students.
Mrs. Wille, a former student of JSSB, graduated with a BA in Theater from Columbia College Chicago with a concentration in Acting. Cassady managed Motion Unlimited Dancewear, in Chicago, and has become an expert at fitting pointe shoes for students and professionals. She has danced for over 20 years and is here to help you with any questions you may have about the school or even your dancer's pointe shoes.
Mrs. Svalander and the faculty at JSSB strive to help every student realize their full potential, both in and out of the dance studio. Many of our alumnus have gone on to successful careers in the performing arts. If there is someone we missed, please contact us. Here is a sampling of what some have achieved after training at the Judith Svalander School of Ballet.
It is our mission to train our students properly in the beautiful art form that is classical ballet; the foundation for all dance technique. We will provide each student with the tools to maximize their abilities and reach their full potential.
Whether their destiny is as a professional dancer or it leads them in a different direction entirely, it is our goal to instill the virtues of the art form, and a sense of achievement that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.Classical Ballet - Features the finest elements of the French, Italian, Danish, English, and Russian schools.

The Creative Dance program (pre-ballet) at JSSB provides a fun and nurturing environment that promotes the development of creativity and expression. It is an opportunity for children to make new friends and be physically active while building a strong foundation for a lifetime love of dance.
The Creative Dance program is so much fun, they don't even realize how much they are developing the coordination, balance, and strength required as they continue into Beginning Ballet.Required Attire: Capezio #CC400c light pink (CD I & CD II) or light Blue (CD III) uniform leotard, pink tights, and pink leather ballet slippers.

I took lessons here in the late 70s/early 80s, now my daughter has danced here for a few years and LOVES it. My training here allowed me to dance professionally, my daughter has similar plans. She loves her teachers, training is of professional quality, prices are reasonable, and classes cover a wide range of styles (alas, no hip-hop) to fully develop dancers, but ballet is still king at this school, and it is taught VERY well.
