The Cape Fear Yacht Club was founded in 1993 by a small group of local sailors as primarily a large sailboat (PHRF rules) ocean racing organization centered at the Southport Marina. When the ocean was lumped up we stayed in the river to challenge the currents. Within the first two years we quickly grew into a more general boating club with strong social, youth and cruising divisions for both sailors and power boaters.
The Cape Fear Yacht Club (CFYC) welcomes power and sail boat owners of all skill levels, boat sizes, and boat types (trawler, multihull, motor yacht, center console, sport cruiser, sail, etc.) to join in our cruising adventures. Each year, all interested boaters meet to prepare and plan the upcoming boating season schedule.
Since 2006 the Cape Fear Yacht Club has been providing a charming setting for weddings, receptions, private parties, business meetings, youth sailing training, and other events. The architectural award winning design*, based on a boathouse dream, provides a unique setting. The 2400 square foot nautical inspired coastal venue, conveys an informal elegance.

The regatta celebrates the end of a busy tourist season with a sailboat race in the early afternoon followed by an evening awards ceremony and live music at Provision Company in Southport.
In collaboration and partnership with the Oak Island Parks and Recreation, the CFYC hosts the annual Summer Youth Sailing Camps. Celebrating its 26th year, the Sailing Camp is the only on the water program in Brunswick County.
In addition to having fun, the focus of this one-week course is learning the fundamentals of sailing, boating safety, proper sailing terminology, rigging, and how to skipper boats around Dutchmans Creak inlet and the Cape Fear River. The Youth Sailing Camp Program consists of three individual weeks of single sailor Opti class sailboats and three individual weeks of the two sailor 420 class vessels.
