Josephine's Tea Rooms & Gifts Shops opened in 1979 in Godfrey, Illinois. We are located four miles North of Alton, a historic river town on the bluffs of the Mississippi River and a 30 minute drive from downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The gift shops are in the original house which was once part of Monticello College that was founded in 1838.
The main gift shop features unique home decor, gifts, florals, clothing, jewelry and accessories. Additionally, Monticello House features women's fashions, shoes, handbags, jewelry and accessories. In 2014, we added Fred's Shed, our sale house, which features sale, close outs and mark downs. Lunch is served six days a week, so join us for lunch and stay to shop.

Just like everything else the prices have gone up and the quality down. I purchased a turkey sandwich and two bowls of soup. $21.93. The Cheddar soup was runny and a bit on the salty side. When I got home I noticed that there weren't any condiments with my sandwich. It was just meat and bread. When I called to inquire the server said that's how the sandwiches come. You have to request the dressings . What a waste of time and money.

The decor is beautiful and the staff is friendly. I did a Mid American bus tour so I was with a large group. I had the lobster bisque and chicken salad sandwich. Both were excellent. The tea was a little disappointing, but I think that's mostly me with a preconceived notion of what a tea room would have. I thought it would be more like Teavana with fancy teas and dispensers but it was Bigelow. Maybe fancy teas are not realistic for a restaurant. Other plates not a part of our group reservation were bountiful. The salads are huge. The desserts are enormous. I had the brownie bottom cheesecake. It

Classic place for my family to visit. Great food as always. Lobster bisque here is my all time favorite. Last visit , I took my aunt for the first time and they forgot to warm a pot of soup, which so happened to be her bowl. So that was the only mishap in my years of visits. They fixed the issue right away.

Visiting from Charlotte NC and this is a favorite of my aunts. She told me how much she enjoys the atmosphere, the shops and especially the food. Once we arrived I understood why she liked the atmosphere. It's such a beautiful place with various sized potted plants that line the walkways along with tables and chairs. When we got inside there were beautiful decorations with an eclectic, cozy feel, mantles with lamps and flowers and it was bustling with many patrons. The restaurant is fairly large and it's sectioned off with different colored chairs and tables that had small flower arrangements for
