Services
Specifications are detailed documents that mandate specific marking instructions, tolerances and parameters such as depth, location, and marking methods. Universal Metal Marking maintains the largest marking Specification Library (over 1,500 specs) in the marking industry. Universal Metal Marking will provide a Certificate of Conformance stating that we have marked a job that complies to required specification.
Laser Marking is the most versatile of all marking methods. Laser Marking is a Non-Contact form of marking in which a CNC machine directs a laser beam as small as 0.002 in diameter to cut through a work piece to a desired depth. Very complex fixtures to accommodate marking on multiple rounds, flats, hex, and planes in ONE operation which reduces the cost to the customer.
Vibro Peening (or Dot Peening) is the process of a rapidly vibrating carbide cutter marking into the surface of a part. When the mark is viewed under a loupe, one will see a series of microscopic dots pushed together, but when viewed by the naked eye, the mark will appear to be a continuous line. Very little pressure is applied on the part.
Electro Chemical Etching (also referred to as Electro Etching, Chemical Etching, Electro Marking, or Electrolytic Etching) is the operation of pressing an electrolyte-soaked electrode onto a stencil that is placed over a metal part. The electric current from the electrode dissolves the metal material under the stencil, thus creating the desired mark.
Impression Stamping / Debossing is the process of pressing a heat-treated die into a metal part. This process can yield depths over 0.030. Embossing is the process of placing a flat part in between a male and female embossing die set. Once the part is pressed by the male and female dies, the marking image is raised above the level part, similar to the numbers on a credit card.

Had a unique large one-off stainless steel public sculpture, which needed quite a bit of text engraved on three large heavy pieces. Contacted at least 10 companies in Los Angeles who could not handle the work due to the large size or other problem. Brack was able to take on the job using a large jig to rotate the work precisely. It turned out superbly and only took a few days of turnaround time. Extremely pleased, was a real lifesaver for my project, would not hesitate to go back here.

I met with the owner on a project that seemed impossible. Our company had a large order with a very tight deadline. We ran through options and Brack suggested what would work best with our time frame. He is very knowledgeable about metal materials and clearly explained to us the process ours would have to go through. The results exceeded our expectations! I purchased a rifle receiver that didn't have a very good finish on it so I decided to have it laser engraved and then have it Type III Hard Anodized.
I found Universal Metal Marking Co (UMMCO) on the internet and I am sure glad I found them. I I filled out their "Request for Quote" link on their website sent a couple of sample pictures of what I was looking for, and received an email back from Brack of UMMCO first thing on Monday. He explained about the process and the type of artwork I would need to provide them and the depth the laser needed to go for what I was looking for.

I have been working with Brack Hudson on the development of a Crafted Bottle Opener for retail sale. He is experienced, knowledgeable, and works very hard to achieve the product vision. My request was a 'one off' custom laser engraving. After contacting over 2 dozen vendors who were either too expensive or my job too small I came upon UMM. They fulfilled my request perfectly, within reasonable cost, quick turn around and they were a pleasure to work with. Who could ask for anything more? I highly recommend! Brack is the man!

UMMCO did laser engraving on some aluminum parts that I shipped to them. The communication was great, they double checked with me before starting to make sure what they would do was what I wanted.

I had taken a surprise graduation present I intended to give to my son to UMMCO to have a special message laser engraved on it. The message was to be engraved in a unique and specific size font and required the text to be positioned in multiple locations with precision. Most concerning was the fact that, the item to be engraved was irreplaceable so, accuracy and precision was imperative.
