Services
Abbey Caskets was established in 1999 and is owned and operated by the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey. Abbey Caskets supports the prayer and works of Saint Meinrad Archabbey by offering handcrafted wooden caskets, cremation urns and keepsake crosses directly to the public. Each high-quality casket and urn is built, to the specifications of the monks, in our workshop by local craftsmen from hardwoods such as cherry, walnut, oak and poplar.
Each Abbey Casket and urn receives a blessing from Archabbot Kurt Stasiak, OSB. This special blessing is just one way for Saint Meinrad to spiritually connect with you, the families that we serve. Know that our community continues to pray for you long after the casket or urn has been delivered. Watch our video to learn more about the history of Abbey Caskets and get a glimpse behind the scenes in our workshop.
As Benedictine monks here at Saint Meinrad, we certainly appreciate the natural beauty of our home - the trees and beautiful landscape that surround our hilltop monastery and the sandstone buildings that have stood for many years. This appreciation for God's gifts is a part of our spiritual life. We celebrate this belief in the spiritual through the many symbols that are part of monastic life.
We received many positive comments about the beautiful, but simple monk's casket in natural poplar that we ordered for Jim. The priest even commented on its beauty during his Mass homily. Abbey Caskets customer service could not have been more comforting during this very difficult time. Sadly, I purchased 2 items within 6 months - and urn for my mother-in-law and a casket for my husband!
Your casket purchase will be funded by purchasing an Insurance funded trust through the National Guardian Life Insurance Company (NGL) of Madison, WI. This provides the greatest protection of your funds. When Abbey Caskets is notified of your death, your fully paid casket will be delivered to the funeral home or other location of your choice.

An odd feeling to review casket services but Trappist Caskets helped ease some of the pain we experienced when we lost our son to cancer. They are a phenomenal organization that supports people going through hardship and they do it with love and kindness. I'm able to review them now, thankfully, as it has been 5 years since the passing of my son. The referring of these services is not easy, but god forbid someone finds themselves in the position of needing them...they are superbly professional with what they do.

This ministry serves those with a loss of a loved one and their serviceis exceptional. When my wife was in hospice, I contacted them to arrange for a handmade walnut casket. The office staff arranged delivery to the funeral home when needed and shipped extra personalized crosses later. The brothers prayed for my wife and family, then remembered her in Masses and contacted me in the year following her death.
My wife chose cremation, so we got the casket for the funeral and a walnut urn for her cremains.
I recommend them to anyone facing end of life decisions. God bless.

When my mother passed away in 2005, I looked for a traditional English style coffin but could not find one until I came to the Trappist Caskets Website. I called them and they were quite friendly and cordial on the telephone. They shipped out a coffin by air express, and even though the airline "lost" the first casket they were able to send me another before her service. Thank you, Trappist Caskets! Beautiful woodworking.

This is a wooden casket and urn "factory" run by Benedictine monks from the New Melleray Monastery. Their products are of the highest quality and lowest price. The shop is open for guided tours, which is well worth the time if you're in the area. Special orders are accepted. The most impressive fact here is caskets or urns for children (17 and under) are absolutely free, including shipping.
