Massage is defined by Mirriam Webster as: : manipulation of tissues (as by rubbing, kneading, or tapping) with the hand or an instrument for therapeutic purposes. In the West, basic training for massage therapists is in Swedish massage, which combines a variety of techniques such as effleurage (gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading), friction, and tapotement (light percussion).
A typical massage therapy session is between 40 and 90 minutes (15 to 20 minutes for chair massage). Your massage will begin with a brief consultation and review of symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle. During your first exam, your massage therapist will spend time getting to know you and your health concerns.
Some common questions about massage therapy and bodyworks are answered below. Call us if you have other questions or if you are interested in improving your quality of life through massage and other therapy treatments. A Massage Therapist is in one of the fast-growing healthcare professions. For many years, massage therapy was virtually an unknown practice, even considered therapy for spiritual healing.
In order for the massage therapist and the client relationship to work properly, clear communication is necessary. If the client has any medical conditions, recent injuries or surgeries, or regular medications, the massage therapist needs to be informed prior to the massage treatment. Below is a list of conditions that you should make your massage therapist aware of immediately.

Due to pain issues resulting from over 20+ surgeries due college football and then a landmine bomb explosion losing both my legs, I've been under Tai's treatment for nearly 10 years. Initially, I would make an appointment when in pain. Sort of a 911 call for help. over the last 5+ years, I've scheduled bi-weekly therapy appointments with Tai to especially treat the lower back and upper back shoulder blades. Pain management and Tai's treatment is five-star, A+, second to none awesome and effective. In fact, Tai is one of the reasons (the other is the UVA prosthetic facility) that I would be hesitant

My experience at Refreshing Effects was amazing. Perfect relaxing atmosphere. Comfortable environment. It is evident that Tai has a passion for what she does and is truly genuine. She even called to follow up a few days after my lymphatic drainage massage to check-in and see how I was doing. She is incredibly knowledgeable in her field and definitely cares for her clients. Highly recommend!!!!
