SMART, the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers, is one of North America's most dynamic and diverse unions with 208,000 members. SMART's members ensure the quality of the air we breathe, promote energy efficiency, produce and provide the vital services that move products to market and passengers to their destinations.
We are sheet metal workers, service technicians, bus operators, engineers, conductors, sign workers, welders, production employees and more. With members in scores of different occupations, we advocate for fairness in the workplace, excellence at work and opportunity for all working families. SMART Local Union 9 has completed our new apprenticeship website and launched smarthvac.training.

Services
SMART Local 9, like all labor unions, is a democratic organization made up of the members within our organization. The basic idea of a union is that by joining together, workers have a greater ability through their strength in numbers to improve conditions at the worksite. In other words, "In unity there is strength."
At SMART Local #9, we pride ourselves in cutting edge training and technology in the Sheet Metal Industry. Our Joint Apprenticeship Training Center has three locations across Colorado in Denver, Colorado Springs, and Grand Junction. The Colorado Sheet Metal Workers apprenticeship program is an accredited school that grants college credits toward an associate degree along with certification as a journeyman upon completion.
SMOHIT has made a grief and trauma counselor available to SMART members and their families. If you have been struggling with suicidal thoughts, you are not alone. Having thoughts of wanting to take your own life is common among those dealing with severe depression. It is important to remember, however, that what you are feeling or thinking doesn't have to translate into action.
We are the SMART Transportation Division (formerly known as the United Transportation Union or UTU), an AFL-CIO affiliate headquartered in the Cleveland suburb of North Olmsted, Ohio. We are a broad-based, transportation labor union representing about 125,000 active and retired railroad, bus and mass transit workers in the United States.
