L & J Cafe
The L&J Cafe is a uniquely flavorful link between El Paso's past and present. Originally known as "Tony's Place", the restaurant opened on the outskirts of El Paso in 1927, providing home cooking, home brew and slot machines through Prohibition. Later renamed the "L&J Cafe, " a fourth generation now continues the family tradition. Delicious food and drink, excellent service and a historic (now central!) location make the L&J Cafe an enduring favorite among locals and lucky travelers alike.
Services
Back in the days of "the Great Depression", Antonio O. Flores established what would then become a well known, respected, and family oriented business. The year 1927 marked the opening of Tony's Place. Story has it that bootlegging was popular at Tony's as well as Juanita G. Flores' (Antonio's wife) famous cooking.

Got the Mexican Combination plate and it has to be the best plate of food I've had. My favorites were the caldillo and taco. Caldillo had tender meat, and the peppers weren't overbearing with heat. Taco was hands down, the best seasoned taco meat and it was just ground beef. Flauta, enchilada, and chile relleno were all great as well.
Manager also checked on us twice and I can't think of the last time I've seen that happen. We will definitely be back.

Amazing Tex-Mex! I wish their Chile Colorado had been spicier, but overall the taste was great. The sopapillas were tasty and fluffy, I'll definitely be ordering them again.
Shout out to our waitress Susana for being so attentive and helpful!

Good food, good service. Stopped here based on a recommendation and it was extremely packed. Waited 30 for a table. Food tasted good and the restaurant has great prices. Would definitely recommend the place if you are in El Paso.

My partner and I had a wonderful time here today. We came down from Alamogordo for the day, and are so thrilled about finding this little hole in the wall, "the place by the graveyard". The atmosphere was on point, the music, the art, even the location and outside of the building. Edgar, our server, gave us exceptional service. We had our drinks and chips and salsa within seconds after ordering them. Their salsa is BOMB! The food came out MAYBE five minutes after that, if not less. The plating was vibrant.
Man, THIS is the Mexican food I've been looking for for years, the kind of food I've been

I ordered the vegetarian fajita sub sour cream with cheese.
I would love to see vegetarian mole/enchiladas in the future if they are open to ideas.
It's always packed.
You may have to wait for a bit to get a table.
They ran out of tres leches but I tried the sopaipilla. Loved it.

Best refried beans I've had in a long while. Good salty chips and salsa, both red and green. Rice is good. The Chili Colorado has really nice flavor and paired well in the corn tortillas. My friend had the steak fajitas which were equally good with great tasting peppers and onions. We'll be back soon!

Great reviews on Trip Advisor so had to check them out. Was seated immediately by a very friendly employee. Within a min waitress came and took drink order. She too was very friendly. Ordered the combo plate. What a deal! Absolutely fantastic authentic Mexican food. Everything, from the homemade chips/salsa to the main entrée was delicious. Highly recommend anyone give this place a try. You'll be back, I will!

Great Place. Came here for Lunch, wasn't a long wait. Ordered the Tampiquena Steak. Was delicious. My only dislike was that the Enchilada that comes with the Tampiquena dish was a bit dry. Would like to see more red chile sauce on it. The Enchilada was still good though. Other than that great place, awesome staff and atmosphere.

Family owned, authentic Mexican food. Favorites were the bean and cheese dip, enchiladas with chicken and green chilies, flautas, and the chili con Queso. So many great options! Good service and food. Casual atmosphere, definitely a must try!!
