Leland Yacht Club
Upon reviewing the minutes of the Annual Board Meetings and Annual Meetings of the LYC, the following is presented to show a running history of events - minus the usual items of approving reports, electing officers and board members, and discussions of annual sailing committee activities.

The first year there were 41 member families and a pier was built in Nedow's Bay, racing buoys were established, they began to pay for dredging the Leland River, 450,000 fingerling trout, bass.Walleye and Brook Trout were planted and a life guard hired for the swimming beach. In '37 water sports' carnivals were held on the Fourth of July and Labor Day and the First sail races were held.
Services
Member sail is free. You must call or stop by to make an appointment on sailing school days, Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, 9:30-3. You may also call the clubhouse, 231-256-9618 and leave a message. Your appointment is not confirmed until you get a return call. We encourage members to sail, however, in order to keep equipment in good repair for other members as well as for our students, you are responsible for any damages you incur.
As a member of the Yachting Club of America, members of the Leland Yacht Club are entitled to utilize the facilities of over 700 yacht clubs across America. Usage includes the use of restaurants and dockage as available. Please contact the club you are interested in for details. If you are a current member you can log in to see a printable letter of introduction.
In the Clubhouse you will find several trophies. Through the years we have awarded Fleet Champions for the Lightning Fleet, the National One-Design, the Laser Fleet, the Olympic 470 Fleet and the Sunfish Fleet. We have an Old Timer's Trophy, a Marathon Trophy and a Handicap Trophy. There is also a roving trophy listing all the Barbecruise Co-Chairs and a Bollard Award given to recognize outstanding service to the club.
Fleet races take place on a triangle course which, thanks to our dedicated race committee, is set up each day based on the wind. The committee boat leaves from the Leland Yacht Club approximately one hour before the start. Information about racing location can be obtained from the committee prior to their departure.
At 10:30am, cleverly decorated boats in every size and shape parade by the crowd at Nedow's Bay and a panel of expert judges seated on the Yacht Club dock, all hoping to win one of the many awards that will be given at the evening festivities. Awards are given for several categories which usually include 12 years and under, teens, family, adult, and over 50.
