Gentry Construction is a full-service general contractor based in Portland, Oregon. We specialize in remodeling homes of all vintages, from kitchen and bathroom updates to whole house projects. A 1920s Craftsman bungalow shouldn't look like a 70s ranch. Nor should an English tudor try to become a Victorian.
But we also understand that updating houses can preserve their character and improve their livability. Our approach to remodels is wholly collaborative. It's your home, after all. From the first time we meet, we'll work to align on what you're looking for in a space, as well as how we can achieve the aesthetics and design you're seeking-all within the constraints of budget, timing, etc.

Michael Gentry founded Gentry Construction in 2004, but that's not the beginning of the story. When Mike was seven, his father gave him a hammer. Mike engraved his name in that hammer (see logo), and his father soon put him to work hammering, drywalling, painting, and learning the fine points of which wires not to cross when wiring a socket.
When the owners of this 40 year-old ranch in Portland's Vista Hills purchased the home in 2012, they'd fallen in love with the neighborhood and saw the home's character and potential. What they needed was a whole-house renovation to make it ready for the next 40 years. The homeowners tapped Gentry Construction with the task of how best to achieve a free-flowing, open main floor.
The owners of this 1970s home in Portland's SW Hills approached Gentry Construction for a main floor modern update. With great bones and some stunning views, the home was in need of a thorough facelift. Working with the client's designer, we provided the construction know-how and buildable design tweaks along the way.
New restauranteur Ken "Zig" Naffziger tapped Gentry Construction to turn an old Thai restaurant on Portland's east side into a neighborhood pub-the Tabor Tavern. We worked with Ken and his wife, Kristen, to provide a space that looks good without trying too hard-casual yet styled and fun. A 30 ft long slab of Doug Fir was utilized for the bar top and reclaimed train truss members were repurposed for the back bar and wall wainscoting.
The owner of this spacious 90s West Hills home approached Gentry Construction with high-end kitchen and bath remodels, as well as the task of bringing fresh life into the rest of the home. For the kitchen, we removed an underutilized pantry and a dividing wall, took out the bulky cabinets, and added new can lights.
