The founder of Viva International Eyewear, Harvey Ross sold the company to health insurer Highmark then launched New York-based optical retailer Optyx with locations throughout New York City and on Long Island. I loved this place. Everyone was so nice and helpful. They answered all of my questions about different styles and different lenses types. They helped me find some frames that actually looked good. I also had my exam done here. The Optometrist was so nice and I was able to do a walk in appointment!

Such a amazing place with so many nice different variety of frames. The workers in here really take their time to help you find some nice frames that you’ll like and will fit your face. I usually have a hard time finding some frames because my face is small, but when I came here they really helped me and made sure I left with something that I’ll love. I had the best service at Optyx!! Everyone was so kind and helpful and it really made my experience fun, comfortable, and not stressful. They answered all my questions and helped me pick out frames that looked good. Dr. Choe took the time to explain things to me and to ask me questions and I didn’t feel like she was trying to rush me or “get it over with”, an experience I have felt on other occasions at other doctor’s appointments. Definitely recommend going there to everyone.

The MOST important aspect of going to any doctor is AFFORDABILITY. If they don't accept the most popular types of insurance, then it defeats the purpose of getting a check up. I'm very disappointed with that they don't accept this very popular form of insurance.

I have known customer service representative Grace Bustos at Optyx for at least five years when she was affiliated with another eyewear facility. At said facility, I would just take whoever was available when I needed to make my walk-in yearly or bi-annually appointment. Each time I made my walk-in appointments, I was able to find Grace. She is so kind, knowledgeable, caring, honest, helpful and has a wonderful memory. I know it's an optometrist's job to know their patient's history, but it is also impressive when a customer service representative who only sees you once a year or once every two

I bought a pair of glasses at the store. They promised me that the glasses would be ready in a week. But I waited for a month and still got nothing. Over the past month I called them over and over again. They kept saying they’ll check the status and let me know the result. But they never ever called me back. Today I went to the store in person and asked for the glasses status. But they said once again that the glasses would be ready next week — just like they said a month ago.
Question: should I trust them? Is there a zero star that I can assign?

I went to 3 Optyx locations in NYC to get my progressives glasses. I had issues with them and asked to have a licensed optician(my father was one) to recheck the measurements and they told me that there was only 2 in the company and neither were working that day AND they weren't at any of the stores that were close to me. This place should be reported... DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Doctor was ok, the staff there could not be worse. The guy at the reception was rude and condescending, gave me so much attitude. Absolutely the worst experience, do not deserve even 1 star.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Optyx and Dr. Visanji- they canceled my appointment 3 times. I booked my original appointment to take place over two weeks ago in Feb and an Optyx rep called to say Dr. Visanji wouldn't be in the office after-all on the day of my appointment and asked me to reschedule. A few days later Dr. Visanji called to say there had been an error and she wouldn't be in the office on the date my new appointment had been scheduled for so she asked me to change it again. I re-booked my appointment for a third time and scheduled it for today (March

Wow!!! What a delight to come to get my glasses here!!! I walk in and there’s a fantastic selection of eyewear to choose from, but most importantly the staff was incredible! One person in particular stood out above the rest.... Aura. She made me feel welcomed from the second I entered the store, she is an absolute ray of sunshine! She effortlessly made feel good and absolutely comfortable picking out the new glasses! Please see you and you will not be disappointed! Lovely experience, Highly Recommended.

Update: my eye insurance should fully cover the routine annual exam but they charged it to my medical insurance because I have a "medical condition." How is dry eye a medical condition?!? I'm still battling with them to try to get this charge reversed and it's September 2018. My eye exam was back in December 2017. I have called them and been told the manager will call me back but she never did. I even went in person today but manager is not there so the matter is still not resolved. Word of advice, avoid this place to save yourself the trouble. Oh and I never got a prescription

As someone who has gone to the same optical for most of her life, I can honestly say that I don't regret my decision switching to Optyx on east 52nd. I loved everything about my visit.

The entire staff was exceptional. I was immediately greeted by Patricia, who over the phone and in person was so helpful. I was late to my appointment due to the lovely NYC trains, but she was able to speak with the doctor and squeeze me in as I'm traveling tomorrow.

The optometrist, Sophia Visanji, is amazing. She was explaining everything as she was doing it and made sure I was comfortable.

This store has beautiful selection of frames worth checking out if you are interested in more "masculine" frames. The lighting however is kind of a nightmare during the day so it's a bit tough when trying on glasses (too much reflection going on). Staff was helpful.

Patricia and team were amazing. They did everything they could to help me pick the best contacts and glasses, and to make sure they got to me in time. As with another reviewer, I went to this place because they had great reviews on Zocdoc and accepted my insurance. The visit with the doctor was great - however my experience with the new glasses was less so.

I initially went in because I'm starting to have trouble reading (ah the pleasures of getting older!). So after a pleasant eye exam, the sales team recommended progressive lenses. I thought why not, I need a good pair of glasses and my contact lenses have the tendency to dry out my eyes these days. A whopping $1,100 later, walked out with an order for progressive lenses.

Best optical shop in the city . Meghan and Patricia are super professional, always helpful and kind . My prescription is super high and is a tricky one - so when I forgot to take a spare pair of contacts on my visit to nyc they accommodated immediately and we're beyond helpful and gracious . I'm a repeat client, and after coming back to OPTYX for new frames and lenses in June of 2016 I have had the worst experience. I now have a pair of Celine frames with Shamir autograph lenses that cost a total of $1,250 that I cannot wear, and the sales manager Bret Schumacher will not even give me the courtesy of returning my phone calls or emails. I have now been forced to pay for a new refraction at Cohen's Optical with Dr. Booras and according to his exam the prescription made by OPTYX is completely incorrect and I cannot wear them or see with them. I really regret my visit to this optical... On a day when I go there first time to make appointment on from desk was one guy and I very clearly ask how much will cost my exam and I did present them my insurance card, he told to me $180 and I need to pay only $20... Next day after exam I was charged $132 and my insurance $320... All together $480! She gave me some testers of daily contacts lenses and some new liquids for contacts, but obviously I was charged for that... My recommendation is to avoid this place, but if you go there ask very precise about cost because on the end you'll be very

I don't normally write reviews, but the service I got here was very un-NYC like... it merited a 5-star review.

I've gone into other shops and was either completely ignored (cough cough Warby Parker) or felt pressured to "buy something or get out". I stuck with wearing contacts because I could just re-order them online and not deal with all of that nonsense.

The coolest, most helpful, and cordial service you will ever get. Dr. Dawson took her time to explain everything she was doing and answer ALL questions I had. Janeen and Eddie Lee were beyond helpful and informed when it came to choosing my new frames, AND correcting a mistake made by the lab (my script was too strong). This team is not only friendly and warm, but also knowledgeable and works to ensure your satisfaction. Go see them. I love my new glasses!!!!!

I came here to have my glasses adjusted. Usually I go to Cohen's but decided to give this place a try since it is right next door to my work building. It was amazing! They did a great job and were super nice about it. They even told me that my glasses were poorly adjusted before, which is why they were so uncomfortable. Def will be back.

They also offer corporate discounts, which is something I'll keep in mind the next time I need glasses or contacts.

I have had the best imaginable experience with this Optyx location, both with glasses and now with contacts.

I normally dread the hunt for new frames, since the kind of enduringly stylish frames that I like are a tiny sliver of the market. This Optyx had a whole store of them, and Nancy's professionalism and good taste made the selection process easier, pleasanter and more confidence-inducing than I've ever experienced. Don't be fooled by the store's small size - they have a larger selection than what's on display.

I bought my frames/lenses and custom-made sunglass clip here in 2002. Yes, really. And only now - in 2008 did I have to replace them. The style was perfect for my face and the glasses fit right and were cut to my precise prescription.

Great choice of up-to-date styles and AWESOME customer service. Gruen is a great chain and this store was right in my building.
