Fifth Season Gardening Company began in 2000 with the opening of Asheville Agricultural Systems in Asheville, NC, followed by stores in Durham, NC in 2002 and Greensboro, NC in 2004, both under the Carolina Hydrogardens name. In 2006, we merged our locations under a single name, and Fifth Season Gardening Company was born.
Thanks to our loyal customers, we continued to grow, buying Garden Waves of Raleigh in 2007 and opening our fifth location in Charlottesville, VA in 2009. We also kept expanding our product offerings to better serve our community. In 2008, in addition to our traditional offerings of hydroponic and organic gardening supplies, we began carrying beer and wine making products.

If you are into plants, this is the place for you. Ryan was helpful and attentive, even when the store was busy. Very knowledgeable about their products, the science of growing, and the industry as a whole. Great vibes here, and though I could order things online, I will be going back on the regular to give these guys business.

I was hesitant to write this review, but after some thought, I decided that I needed to share what happened. I purchased a handful of items at the Greensboro location, and after looking over my receipt in the car, I noticed that I had been overcharged slightly for 3-gallon pots and a 5 kg brick of coconut coir. I went back inside and asked the cashier to refund me the difference between what I was charged and what was advertised. He refused, citing the fact that prices change in the system and that what's advertised in the store isn't actually what the item may cost. I though that was a bit absurd

I was suggested to go to here from a different store owner and was happily surprised to find a healthy stock of brewing supplies as well as cheese making, live scobi, organic gardening, and the store smelled wonderfully of hemp growing in mylar tents in the store. Ryan was helpful and knowledgable and their dog was even friendly. Ryan pulled out a spare steel jacketed brewing tank from the back because I talked about wanting one and if I had money I would have bought it on the spot. I will most definitely be back!
