Health is defined by the World Health Organization as " a state of physical, mental and social well-being, not merely an absence of diseases or infirmity". Holistic Health is about honoring the mind-body connection by treating the whole person using a variety of clinically proven therapies. Holistic healthcare recognizes the effect of sociological, psychological, spiritual and economic factors that affect an individual's well being.

In 400 B.C., Hippocrates, known as the father of modern medicine, emphasized the healing power of nature in his Hippocratic School of Medicine. He was also a proponent of self-healing. He believed that the body could heal itself of most illnesses, if properly encouraged.

Shamin Thakur grew up in Syracuse, NY, went to India after high school, and attained her Medical Degree from Bangalore University, India in 2003. While she was studying there, she was drawn to a broader system of health care which involved the mind, body, and spirit. This system of health care is known as Ayurveda.
Ayurveda is one of the oldest health care systems in the world that is still being practiced today. It originated in India more than 5000 years ago. Ayur means life and Veda means science or knowledge, Ayurveda is the Science of Life. Although its origin is Indian, the concepts are universal and beneficial to all.
The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words Rei (universal) and Ki (life force energy). Reiki is the vital life energy that flows through all living beings. I had an incredible experience working with Shamin. Her practice is so beautifully named- she truly guides you to a higher wellness of being. Each session is warm and welcoming. With her background in western medicine Shamin is able to meet you where you are at: whether you want the very basic wellness (mind, body, spirit) with a blend of western and eastern guidelines or want to go deeper into the traditions/knowledge behind Ayurveda. I left each session feeling heard, empowered and ready to implement my next wellness steps. I would highly recommend her to anyone on a wellness journey. Thank you
