When I contact people who ask me to perform an event, they the sometimes seem confused or surprised about disc jockey prices. There are many factors that affect the fee that a DJ will charge. There are actual market prices that many people don't understand. These vary depending on the specific DJ and the local market.
You will pay more for reputation and years of experience which is only reasonable. People who are just starting out DJing will generally have a smaller fee. For the most part professional DJ's generate their income in the wedding season and on weekends. This makes Saturdays "prime time". There are only so many weekends in a year.

If people are going to be introduced or are part of a ceremony you must let them know so they will be ready. Remember that the DJ may not know these people by sight. If your disc jockey has many years of experience, he may be able to alert you of possible conflicts or concerns that may happen during the evening or can help resolve issues that do occur.
Since by now most people have either visited a karaoke bar or have seen karaoke on TV, karaoke jocks (KJ's) are now adding other formats to the basic karaoke package to keep people interested. Karaoke may wane as does dance music in certain areas from time to time but karaoke will never die out. These additions and modifications to karaoke may interest people for a while, but they don't access the real appeal which will never change.
