Saco Treeworks is owned and operated by Ryman McLane. Ryman's interest in treework began with the US Forest Service following the 1998 New England ice storm. That summer he removed trees that were twisted and broken, providing his first real practice at hazard tree removal.
He loved the job and worked the following summer as a sawyer for the Diamond Mountain Hotshots where he cut trees for fireline across the West, rarely working fewer than 100 hours a week!Despite the excitement of fighting fire and working in big timber, he eventually returned to the Northeast to complete a BA in geography at Middlebury College.

TREE REMOVAL: We specialize in difficult removals around valuable property. This involves everything from felling and climbing to bucket and crane work. With this array of tools and techniques we can remove trees safely while avoiding damage to your property. We have 2,600 jobs under our belt and have seen nearly every tree removal challenge imaginable.
PRUNING: When not removing trees, much of our time is spent trimming (to benefit people) and pruning (to benefit trees). We commonly trim trees to reduce overhead hazards, improve sunlight and airflow near buildings and provide mountain views. We prune trees to promote health, growth and form. We generally do not use climbing spikes in trees as they leave unsightly scars that lead to stress and disease.
CABLING: Trees with codominant (double) stems are oftentimes weak and prone to failure at their junction. To address this, we cable the stems together high in the canopy. This does not "fix" the tree, but reduces the chance of failure during severe snow and wind events. Our system uses 5/16 galvanized steel cable fastened with steel lags.
BRUSH CHIPPING: Brush chipping is integral to most treework. We chip brush onsite when removing and pruning trees, but we can also chip existing (clean!) brushpiles on your property. The wood chips we produce as a byproduct of treework are high quality and good for mulching and landscaping and can be left with you if desired.
STUMP GRINDING: After removing trees we can trim stumps flush to the ground or grind them 6 below grade. Stumps are unsightly and can attract ants so it is desirable to grind them whenever possible. Grinding is especially important for landscaped areas where you may want to plant grass or near driveways where they may interfere with plowing.
