Miller Farms became a nursery in 1963 when brothers Don and Dick Miller received their first nursery business license. Prior to then it was the Miller Farm, an 80-acre family farm which they worked on with their parents Herb and Evelyn. The original Miller Farm had acres of planted potatoes, raised 12,000 chickens a year and had 150 head of dairy cows.
The potatoes and chickens were phased out in the late 1970's and in the 1980's the Miller's stopped milking cows. We sold the leftover shrubs at the small nursery which we operated on the farm. When those were sold, we bought more and soon we had a variety of plants for sale in our nursery. A friend, George Barry, needed a lawn mower so we bought six and then we were in the lawn mower business.

Cooler fall temperatures allow for better root development and give the plants a bigger head start next spring. It's time to divide and move perennials. As they go dormant you can dig up hostas, astilbes, yarrow, Shasta daisy, Bee Balm, Lamium and Black Eyed Susan. Amend the soil with compost and organic fertilizer.
Miller Farms began landscaping around Humboldt County in the early 1960s. During that time, construction design and techniques were somewhat primitive. A basic design consisted mainly of a lawn with irrigation crafted from galvanized piping with threaded fittings. Junipers and Rhododendrons were the main choice for planting.

I stopped by the powershop last weekend and had a great customer service experience. The place was very busy and despite having a line and the phone constantly ringing, the gentleman at the counter was very attentive. He helped me ID the mower I had and took the time to hunt down a few missing nuts and a gasket I needed. Great service even for a $2.50 sale. Thank you for being there and maintaining your attention to service during these times of quarantine.

Dropped off my Stihl gas trimmer for a quote to get repaired. Two weeks later I still have not heard back. I called to find out what's going on. They tell me the parts are on order. This has me concerned when I asked for a quote and instead was forced into a repair without knowing the cost? Very UN professional.

This place is cute. Some of the people here are helpful. But some are kind of rude...it's expected with customer service. Older woman are always so intimidated of me...wonder why. But if I feel confident enough to carry my product I'm purchasing out myself; it's for a reason. I don't care about your 'job security' maybe you should care about it yourself. I kind of regret purchasing from here. Sure there are cute things...but when the customer service is wrong...you just get turned off by a place.

I've always loved my trips north to Miller Farms as they have the most extensive nursery in the area. I recently have been using their landscaping services to do some major work in the yard. Their crew and I were always on the same wavelength when it came to the design. I am very happy with the work they did in phase one and I'm looking forward to phase two.

Miller Farms is a great nursery. Good selection. Between here and Mad River Gardens you can get everything you need.
Check out the RhodieAzalea selection in Spring, it's the best around. Also, watch the roses when they go on sale, good selection.
Someone posted a bad review because they couldn't buy out of season rhubarb. I think that's way harsh. If I took my grandma in December looking for pumpkin starts, I wouldn't post a bad review because they don't have them, regardless of how disappointed my grandma was.
