Family Health Center of Ashland City (FHCAC) was created by a joint venture of St. Thomas, Baptist and Vanderbilt Hospitals in 1995. They recruited Dr. Scott D. Brown here in 1996; he subsequently bought the practice in 2000 and thus established one of the most longstanding primary care provider offices in Cheatham County.

In 2018, Dr. Travis Shivers signed on with the practice to continue our tradition of excellence in healthcare. The practice was certified as a Rural Health Clinic in 2002, and in 2003 became an approved site of the National Health Service Corps (NHSC).

Everyone in this office is so friendly and personable and they really give you the feeling that they care and that my care is important to them as much as it is to me.

We moved from Louisville, KY to Ashland City. I have some health issues, so I was really concerned about finding a physician here. The my husband's co-workers said that many of them see Dr. Shivers and think highly of him. It is with good reason. Dr. Shivers actually spent time with me, listened to what I said, and asked questions for clarification when needed. He referred me to specialists that I needed to see, and made sure that everything I was concerned about was addressed before I left the office. A follow-up appointment with his Nurse Practitioner was the same. His office staff is incredibly

I have seen the physicians within this practice and they are great. The office staff is great also. I have noticed that the nurses have not been very nice for the past three or four months. I know we are all under a lot of stress but we can still be nice to each other and I thought you were there to help us.

When we moved from Nashville to East Cheatham, I was concerned that I would not be able to find a doctor’s office that was as good as the one we were leaving behind. Well, I didn’t. I found one that is even better. Everyone on the team at Family Medical treats us like family. The quality of care is exceptional, too. In fact, when we moved back to Nashville this summer, we decided to keep going to Family Medical—even though there are plenty of other doctors in Nashville, there is no better place or better people in which to trust with your health.

I was disappointed to enter the small waiting room and see patients allowed in and sitting side by side without masks being required. There was no way to enter or go thru doors and not be within 2 feet of unmasked persons. Then when the nurse practitioner entered she and her assistant were also both unmasked. I had brought in my elderly mother and we both wore masks, so I was shocked at the lack of caution for health officials in an area with Covid being rapidly increasing and so close to Nashville, which is really seeing an increase.

The day of my appointment, I observed everyone social distancing. There were hand sanitizer bottles all over the office and I personally saw two of the front office staff wiping down counters with disinfectant cloths. I was told that wearing a mask was encouraged but not required; it is not county or state mandated, so I respect the doctor's office for giving their patients the choice on whether they want to wear one. I have been a patient here for many years, and they have always been professional, respectful, and compassionate, and they take the best possible care of their patients. I think they
