Four Winds is a haven for young people to unplug from technology and embrace camp traditions. Music, poetry, vintage uniforms, and a focus on inner growth make Four Winds truly unique. Gather for a story at our evening fire and experience the warmth of our community. Our hundred-acre property of woods, fields, and waterfront is just two hours north of Seattle on Orcas Island, among the San Juan Islands in northwestern Washington State.
Set sail on our 61' yawl, Carlyn, and experience this ideal setting for forming an appreciation and respect for nature. Unlike most similar camps, Four Winds * Westward Ho is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. That allows us to make decisions based on our mission and what our community supports. We reserve 20% of our camper spots for families that need financial aid because we value inclusion and diversity.

In a time when a child's life often seems as though it's on fast forward, Four Winds offers a slower pace. In a time when online interactions begin to overshadow real life conversation, Four Winds offers children the chance to engage with themselves and their community free from the distractions of technology.
We believe that a great camp is a great deal more than a place, and a great deal more than activities. At Four Winds, we're fortunate to have a gorgeous property on Orcas Island, and unbelievable activities, but our philosophy and community are even more important. In selecting a Camp, we encourage you to dig deep and find out what a Camp believes, and make sure it's consistent with what you want for your child.
Tradition is important in our camp, and much of that tradition is held in our core values of community, simplicity, and creativity. For so many generations, Four Winds campers have been riding the same trails, singing the same songs, gathering in the same places, sailing the same waters, enjoying the same sense of belonging, and sharing the same spirit of adventure.
Four Winds offers a variety of activities for campers to choose from during the summer. These activities take place in our five activity areas, fondly named The Dock (Waterfront), Land Sports, The Barn (Equestrian area), The Craft Courts (Arts and Crafts) and The Garden. Campers take three classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and another three on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and remain in these for the duration of the Session.
We all gather in a large circle on Greenie Hill. One cabin group will lead us in wake-up songs. Right before breakfast we sing "The Flags of the Four Winds" and raise the flags. There is a flag for every country represented by campers and staff, along with the United Nations flag. At each meal we stand at our table and sing a grace song before eating.
