A periodontist is a highly skilled dental health professional who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infections and diseases in the soft tissues surrounding the teeth and the jawbone to which the teeth are anchored. A dentist must first graduate from an accredited dental school before undertaking an additional two years of study within a periodontology residency training program in order to qualify as a periodontist.
There are several ways treatment from a periodontist may be sought. When teeth are missing, whether a single tooth, multiple teeth or all of the teeth are missing, the family dentist may recommend a consultation with a periodontist for dental implant therapy.
In the course of a regular dental check up, if the family dentist or dental hygienist finds signs and symptoms of periodontal disease, a consultation with a periodontist may also be recommended. We work closely with each referral source; however a referral from a family dentist is not required to make an appointment in our office.

Periodontal disease is diagnosed by your dentist or dental hygienist or a periodontist during a periodontal examination. This type of exam should always be part of your regular dental check-up. A periodontal probe (small dental instrument) is gently used to measure the sulcus (pocket or space) between the tooth and the gums.

Outrageously expensive. The doctor is very old and very slow. The office is extremely outdated not just in looks but in equipment as well. I was quoted over $5,000 and 5 hours of surgery time for the same surgery I got done at Ark-La-Tex Oral Surgery for $950 and it only took 45 minutes to get done. I believe Dr. Guier is a talented periodontist but his prices are outrageous and I honestly don't trust him to do surgery on me or a loved one because he takes so long. He wanted to knock me out for over 5 hours (they don't do anesthesia in house so that was another $800 per hour charge) and

Sometimes having a good bed side manner is the best thing to have in a review. This is one of those occasions. This dentist is really awesome. I've been allowing him to dig in my mouth for a decade. And he's the best. But he don't work with insurance so. .......... actually they will submit your paperwork. You just gotta pay in full.
