Our extensive research on the retina and its conditions helps our team perform at the highest level of patient care. Glaucoma is a condition that causes fluid to build up in the eye to put pressure on the optic nerve. There are several different types of glaucoma and also different levels of severity.

Cataracts is the most common eye condition that occurs in people over the age of fifty and currently affects over 22 million Americans. LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. This procedure corrects your vision by reshaping the cornea of your eye using advanced laser technology.
Services
At Gulf Coast Eye Institute, our patients are the number one priority. Our team of knowledgeable and experienced doctors have performed thousands of procedures, allowing us to ensure our patients that they are in the best hands for eye treatment. The human eye is one of the most extraordinary organs in our body.
Here at Gulf Coast Eye Institute, we provide advanced treatment options for retinal diseases in the eye. The foundation of our practice was formed by a retina specialist, Dr. Victor Gonzalez, who arrived at the Rio Grande Valley region to develop his research of retinal conditions. Welcome to the new home of the Valley Retina Institute.
Cataracts is the most common eye condition that occurs in people over the age of fifty and currently affects over 22 million Americans. This condition occurs when the internal lens of a person's eye becomes clouded. This clouding is caused by the proteins that make up the lens clumping together and preventing clear vision.
If you're wearing glasses and/or contacts, and you fall into one (or a combination) of these categories, then LASIK may be the right choice for you. If you qualify for LASIK, our laser LASIK eye surgery can help you get the clear vision that you deserve. LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis.
Dry eye is a condition that causes redness, burning sensations, and a scratchy or gritty feeling when blinking. Dry eye occurs when natural tears are not produced fast enough or natural tears are evaporating too quickly causing the eye to become irritated. The condition currently affects over 100 million people worldwide.

We were recommended to this clinic for my mother's vision, the doctor was great attentive, and explained everything. My issue is with the people in the office, and the fact that we had an appointment set at 10:15AM and we were not seen until 12ish more than an hour just to be seen. The wait time for the cashiers, registration is the worst. Not only that there is a 25$ fee for any document that they fill out for you, good thing I was there with my elderly mother to fill out everything for her. There was absolutely no social distancing what so ever and everything was so crowded. All in all,

We were recommended Dr Patel at Gulf Coast Eye for my husband's cataract surgery. Dr Patel took time to explain the procedures & options in lenses available. He also explained in detail because my husband doesn't do pain well. Husband ended up with the laser removal which cost more than simple Medicare paid for surgery. Follow up went quickly. No extended waits like some friends had with BIG NAMED doctors. Husband had both eyes done 2 weeks apart with no pain or problems ...ending with 20/20 vision & able to use simple "cheaters" for reading with the understanding
