Sunrise Lawn/Landscaping Services, Inc. was formed in 1986 in a small shop located in Reston, Virginia. It began with two employees (one being myself, Joe Markell), two mowers, and a pick-up truck that had been in our family since 1964. We have steadily grown to over 40 employees, with a variety of trucks and equipment that allow us to accomplish virtually any landscape-related task.
The Sunrise name has been in my family for over 60 years. First, my great grandparents owned and operated Sun Rise Dairy located in Reston/Herndon, Virginia, and then my father and grandfather owned and operated Sunrise American (this was an American Oil Company Service Station) that was located at the intersection of Route 7 and Baron Cameron Avenue.

Worked with an employee to design a patio within our budget and sent them a deposit as requested over 3 months ago. It took me contacting the sales rep Multiple times to finally get the truth…the product we had paid for is not even being made right now. Good thing the sales rep was proactive and informed me (maybe I would have gone with something else). Well not now! I asked for my money back almost 2 weeks ago and still haven’t seen that either. DO NO USE THIS COMPANY! There are so many landscaping companies out there that are no doubt better than these unresponsive people.

Sunrise designed and installed a large garden bed in the backyard, a mixed border of privacy plants along the side of the yard, as well as a pathway and lighting. Jesse, the landscape designer, was very knowledgeable and responsive. The landscapers were professional and took care not to harm surrounding trees with the installation. It’s been about three months and all the plants are thriving. I highly recommend Sunrise!

After a few years of ignoring our lawn when we moved into our new house, we finally hired Sunrise to care for our front and side lawn at the end unit of a row of townhouses, and we have been very impressed. We used a seasonal package in which Sunrise cared for the lawn in a variety of ways, seeding, mowing, mosquito and grub control among them and our lawn has really flourished. Patches that previously hadn't grown grass have now filled out fully, weeds are gone, and the best part- no grubs! AMAZING! We had standing water behind out town home and dirt! We wanted pavers and gravel and get rid of the standing water. Alex, landscape designer was amazing! She was extremely helpful in figuring out a solution to the water and design every step of the way. The crew that came out and did the work did an EXCELLENT JOB!!!!! I wish we had more property so they could do even more work!! =) highly recommend!!!!!!!!!!

I highly recommend. Sunrise Landscaping. I recently had Sunrise come in and make some landscaping changes to my front yard. I have worked with Joe Markell before at my last home and always found him to be very professional, a great listener who does what you ask while providing recommendations where needed since he is the expert. His prices are… also quite reasonable. This time was no exception. His team replaced a redbud with a crepe myrtle and added pavers to my walkway, porch and along the sides of my driveway. In the back they moved and split my hydrangea into three and added astilbe

Sunrise Landscape and Design crews have done a first rage job of installation of quality plant materials and paving in our front garden redesign and in our rear deck reconfiguration and brick patio. They have been retained to fertilize, maintain, and keep pruned these areas with spring and fall visits. Both new and older trees and shrubs have been expertly shaped and pruned with excellent results. That give five star satisfaction!

Sunrise is amazing. They completely designed our back yard, including gazebo, bridge, and pool area. We get so many compliments on it and it feels like we are on vacation when we are out there. Great to work… with from beginning/design all of the way through the build. We have worked with many others and this process was by far the best. We also use Sunrise for all of our lawn maintenance and they are terrific. Great people to work with and our outdoor area has never looked so good!
