The secret of a geothermal system is the earth's ability to store heat. In fact, the sun's energy that reaches our planet is absorbed into the earth. A geothermal heat pump draws heat from or moves heat into the ground or ground water, instead of the air. In the wintertime, a geothermal heat pump transfers heat from the ground or ground water to provide space heating.
Have you ever driven by a farm and seen one of those familiar fan-shaped windmills? That is a water windmill, and its basic design has not changed much in over a century. These devices have a variety of applications. One of the most common uses for these familiar devices is the pumping of groundwater to the surface for use in watering crops and livestock.
What is the property footprint of a geothermal heating and cooling system? The property footprint of a geothermal heating/cooling system varies depending on the type of system used. For a horizontal loop, a sizeable amount of flat land is required, about 100 - 400 feet. A vertical loop does not require as much of a surface-area footprint, but requires drilling through about 100 - 400 feet of soil to be effective.
We're working on getting an energy calculator up to help you estimate your savings when using our services. As oil and energy prices are projected to rise in the future, savings from geothermal heating and cooling will become even more significant. Contact us for a consultation!
