I dropped out of high school and live with a jazz musician in the black ghetto of San Francisco, had a son, traveled the California coast in a converted bread truck, lived in a commune in southern Colorado, then waited tables at Bob and Dot's truck stop in Walsenburg, Colorado. When I was 24 I came to Denver, parted ways with my jazz musician, went to college, then to medical school, got married, and started my private practice in psychiatry.
