Thomas and Bonnie are the owners and founders of the funeral home. Both semi-retired, Tom was a first generation funeral director licensed for over 46 years, and started the Melvin Funeral Home in 1990. Bonnie assists with viewings and funerals and coordinates our aftercare program. Gene is the son of Tom and Bonnie and has been a licensed funeral director in Delaware for over 24 years.
The Traditional Funeral Service with cremation is a standard funeral service with the deceased present. A solid oak rental casket or a special constructed cremation casket is used for the ceremony. Once the service is complete, instead of going to a cemetery, family and friends are excused and the deceased is cremated and the cremains returned to the family.
Welcome to Melvin Monuments, a subsidiary of Melvin Funeral Home. We saw a need to offer our families, and the community, high quality monuments at affordable prices. We have the experience and expertise to provide any type of monument, and our lower overhead allows us to sell our monuments at a lower cost.

Melvins has been amazing. From making arraignments and answering all of our, what we thought were, crazy questions. Helping us through that process. Helping my dad with paperwork. My moms services were in April and because so many people attended they streamed it for us because of capacity issues. Even now with the headstone they have been wonderful. No business is perfect abs I’ve had my issues with Melvins through the years. But when it came for our time when we needed them they were there for my family and my mom looked amazing. Thank you 💜

Would give no stars if possible. Families and individuals pay for a service and it may look all nice once you are at the funeral. However I am so glad after my interaction with them that those families don’t see the funeral homes behavior when picking up their loved one. I am going to hope that they have better compassion when they are preparing those loved ones for their next life.
