Services
Founded by S.Z. Schutte in 1880, Schutte Lumber Company remained a family owned operation and managed trust until 1997, when it was purchased by Daniel C. Fuhrman. The traditions and our rich history are embraced and enhanced by their vision of the future of our company. Schutte Lumber Company is widely known for our diverse inventory of common and not so common lumber and panel products.
If we do not stock the product you are looking for, chances are we can find it. Strong mill and vendor relationships enable us to supply these specialty products while providing our customers with a quick lead time. Our knowledgeable sales and purchasing staff is experienced at finding the right product at the right price for your project.
We are proud of our selection of rough domestic hardwoods. Our lumber is S2S hit and miss. Which means you will be better able to see the character of the boards, but the boards will not be full dimension. For example, a 4/4 will typically run around 15/16. With our extensive resources we can find what you need.
The Festool power tools system is at the heart of the product design. Four core elements integrate each power tool into a foundational system of products: Dust extractors, Multifunction tables, Guide rails, and Systainers. The manner in which our products work together makes each one function more efficiently, effectively, and accurately.
A: Probably not. Those would have to go to the mill to be processed and there is usually a longer turn around time. The showroom can cut pieces down to fit to haul, but we cannot guarantee exact measurements. Exact measurements need to be sent to the mill for processing. Any other questions or concerns you may have, please direct to our showroom or sales staff.

From one local small KC business to another, Schutte Lumber was amazing in helping us with what I'm sure is a very small order for them. I worked with Pete in sales who was patient and helped us find exactly what we needed for out job. Marvin just delivered our order and went above and beyond and was just the nicest. Thank you Schutte!

Icalled on Tuesday and asked if they carried 4/4 sapele. the sales person said yes, So I drove 2.5hrs to buy some. When I asked about it, I was told it was 3/4; and that's all they carry! 60$ of fuel, and 5hrs down the drain! I'll go back to Austin Hardwoods in Denver. At least they know what they sell!

Bought lumber for our front porch railing.
Grade #1 pressure treated pine.
There was only one usable piece out of the whole order. Was told "that's how it is" even cedar we only have to have one good side. Returned the whole order, drove to Home Depot and got beautiful cuts of pressure treated cedar for 35$ less than they charged me for the pine.

I've allowed myself to get ripped off by these guys a few times buying hardwoods, but never again. They have a good selection of overpriced hardwoods, but much of it is warped with bad edges and knots, nonetheless they still count every square inch as if it were perfect. I always take a tape measure with me and most of the time if you go to the register and point out that what they call 6 by is really only 4 they will change it and reprice it. The prices on the bins are clearly stated as cost per board foot, NOT square foot. Apparently whoever does the measuring just stands back and takes

Local lumber yard! Gotta support that or else they're gone, and you're left with the junk at big box stores.
Don't know much about lumber, as this was my first adult build-task, but these guys were helpful enough. Some were a little gruff, but still helpful regardless. They have lots of options/types, and we were able to find what we needed or at least close enough approximations.
Huge bonus: They have a complimentary tie down station to help you make sure your lumber safely makes it to your home. Kudos for that!

I have been a customer for years. The selection of woods and the variety of cuts stocked always makes my hunt easier. There are sales of exotic wood species from time to time (I once built some great cabinets for a client out of wenge, and luckily it was marked down almost 30% for that month). They always accommodate me if I have a special request. I don't know what the guy before me was complaining about, but it's obvious from the new buildings on the property that Schutte is doing just fine. Kansas City is lucky to have this resource.
