We have created the Simply Cremation Plan for families who desire a simple, low-cost cremation option. This plan provides for direct cremation only and includes no other services. By reducing the involvement of our staff, we are able to offer you this low price. The Simply Cremation Plan is an affordable direct cremation option offered by Macken Funeral Home - Rochester's oldest family-owned and operated funeral establishment, serving our area since 1909.
Services
Reduced Basic service fee for filing of the Death Certificate and issuance of all necessary permits. Cremains (ashes) are contained in a poly bag and placed within a black plastic box, housed in a white cardboard box. An additional medical examination may require two removals; one from place of death-to- study facility; the other from study facility-to-crematory.
Death Certificate - The death certificate information is the form we use to submit the information to the State of Minnesota. Death certificates can be ordered from any county in Minnesota (we use Olmsted County, Rochester, MN). The charges for death certificates are currently $13.00 for the first copy and $6.00 for each additional copy ordered at the same time.

All fields that are highlighted with the light blue background can be digitally edited / selected by clicking within each field. Note: To uncheck a selection, click it a second time. Tip: Make sure to uncheck the optional McAfee application if you only want to install the Adobe Acrobat Reader.
The Post Bulletin now allows families to submit the obituary in paragraph form. The obituary will appear just as you write it. If you choose the Simply Cremation Plan, you will have to submit your obituary directly to the Post Bulletin, or the newspaper of your choosing, without our assistance.

Obituary charges vary greatly among papers and once the obituary is finalized we will be able to determine what each paper will charge you for running the obituary. For families that choose our Simply Cremation Plan, the obituary and service information will not be published on our website because we will not be conducting or overseeing the service.
The plan is designed for people who desire direct cremation only - and most likely not require further services from us. Direct cremation is a term used to describe the cremation process, as it is scheduled as soon as possible following death. Embalming is not required nor usually performed and the purchase of a casket is not necessary.
