Karen is a 5th generation Midlander and retired from for Dow Chemical after 25 years where she designed and implemented several global initiatives. Her passion for design began when she was a little girl. She found herself drawing simple house plans and visualizing walking through each room. Kitchen Design continued to be her passion when finally she built her first house in 1987 another house in 1992, and her current home in 2010.
Over the years she has been close to the building industry and has taken great pride in many of her accomplishments. Janelle is a 6th generation Midlander and has recently earned her undergraduate degree from Saginaw Valley University with a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Accounting.

Karen facilitated a bathroom remodel for me. I was unable to make all of the decisions to make the room more accessible for me. I selected the cabinetry and Karen and Janelle selected the paint colors, sinks, cabinet hardware, and granite. I was very pleased with their choices. Communication and attention to detail was good except for the section of drawers in my vanity. The unit came with three large drawers instead of four small ones like I asked. I was told nothing could be done because it was a custom order. Custom order or not, it wasn’t what I wanted and I’ve had no choice but to accept

It was a pleasure working with Janelle and Karen to design our dream kitchen. They were extremely responsive and helped us through every phase of the project. Having professional designers to bounce ideas off and guide us was invaluable for ensuring our vision came to reality while staying on budget. We will without a doubt work with them again on our next design adventure.

Extremely pleased with Designs by Karen for our master bath remodel. They provided multiple design options, helped in the selection of most if not all materials(which we hate doing!) and have excellent taste. Job required multiple contractors, who they also helped select, and they coordinated job timeline and kept things moving forward regardless of issues. Excellent job in selecting builder and tiler as well. Would strongly recommend them for this type of project and we will be working with this same team for our kitchen remodel in the future.
