Our family has been involved in the "Oriental" rug business since the turn of the century. Husney Mahfuz came to this country from Lebanon, after closing stores in Damascus, Syria, and London, England. He opened his first American venture in Watertown, Massachusetts, and then later moved to Boylston Street in downtown Boston.
The store was called Araby Rug, was one of the most famous stores of its day, and stayed in operation until the 1980s. Fred (Fouad) Mahfuz, the son of Husney and middle child of five, loved small towns and didn't want to bring his family up in the Boston area. He found Nashua while delivering rugs from Boston, and decided it was the perfect city in which to raise his young family.

I cannot recommend PRG more highly. Four generations of knowledge in the rug business comes through in any conversation with Sy or Fou. Not only are they tremendous business people, but some of the most generous people I have ever met who maintain high engagement with local non-profits and the community. Nashua is lucky to have such a well respected business operating for nearly 75 years. They are truly a gem in Nashua’s crown.

I had my rugs cleaned by PRG. When they were laying down my cleaned rugs, the gentleman noticed my rickety glass shade on my antique lamp. I told him several people were unsuccessful at fixing it. He fixed it in 5 minutes with tools in his truck. He would not accept payment.
One of my many life's lessons: if you want to know what the owners are like, take note of the caliber of people they hire. Top notch!
