Good things happen when a boy leaves home for camp. He gains independence and finds his own voice. Camp Voyageur fills a summer with sports, adventure and exploring the Boundary Waters with friends. On our peninsula boys live together in small cabins, take care of their own gear and share chores. Sports and activities emphasize cooperation and character.

On wilderness trips boys contribute to the good of the group by "pulling their own weight". Camp Voyageur specializes in back country travel throughout the Boundary Waters, Quetico, Isle Royale, Apostle Islands and beyond. This wilderness inspires adventure that lasts a lifetime. The adventure starts at our dock.
Services
Camp Voyageur offers boys a robust base camp routine of land and water sports, coupled with wilderness trips in the adjacent, two million acre Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Quetico/Superior. Kids grow strong in camp playing sports and making friends. In the surrounding lake country they master wilderness skills.
Camp Voyageur has been owned and operated by the Erdmann family since 1951. Brother and sister team John and Deb Erdmann direct camp and want to help you decide if Camp Voyageur is a good fit for you or your son. Contact them with questions or to discuss your summer camp options. Since the summer of 1984, John Erdmann has continued the family tradition founded in 1951.
Comprised of more than two million acres, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and adjacent Quetico Provincial Park of Ontario, Canada form one of the world's premier canoe wildernesses. The Ojibwa carved the portage trails we still use around the foaming rapids of Basswood, and clear waters of Lac La Croix and Knife Lakes.
The diverse terrain found in the Boundary Waters provides a perfect opportunity for hiking trips. Hundreds of miles of trails connect the dense balsam, birch and pine forests of the region. Whether hiking along the high, rocky cliffs overlooking Snowbank Lake, passing through the thick, cool stands of cedar along the Kekekabic Trail or past remnants of the logging era on the Old Pines Trail, a different challenge awaits campers around every bend.
The abundant lakes of the Boundary Waters offer different challenges to kayakers. Boys can paddle to rapids and iconic waterfalls and large border lakes. Campers learn to kayak during free swim periods while in camp. We offer a kayak Apostle Islands Advanced Trip on Lake Superior for older campers who have mastered specific kayak rescue skills.

I attended camp here as a kid/young man and it had a huge impact on my life. At the time I attended It was fun in camp and the trail offered adventure and new experiences.
As I look back as an adult (with a son who now attends camp) I can more fully appreciate that it was more than the fun and adventure---it taught important lessons (carry your weight, help your fellow man, respect the land, be prepared, bring optimism to the challenges that await you on the trail of life) that have stuck with me today.
We're so lucky that there are places like this for our kids and of course we are so lucky

We started going to CV in 1972, when my brother was a camper and we went up to retrieve him at summer's end. My son was then 6 months old. He went there in the 1980s as a teen and now my two grandsons go every year. This is the perfect camp experience: beautiful setting at the edge of the BWCA, knowledgeable staff, and a tradition that builds character and self-confidence.

We just spent an off-season weekend visiting With Charlie and the Erdmann family. What a beautiful place. Rustic in the best possible way. Their dedication to this camp is palpable. Wish my sons weren’t all grown up.

I was a camper there when I was a kid. It was the best time of my life. It’s forever in my heart. I hope to visit again someday. The camp owners are the nicest people and treat everyone like family. Thanks Charlie.

If you want your son to grow up and learn how to become a man, this is the place. Camp Voyageur builds character in a way that no sport, afterschool program, or any other camp can. Kids have to learn how to work together, carry their own weight, and get along with others -- for it is crucial to a successful trip into the wilderness. The veteran counselors at Camp Voyageur serve as role models and are able to reach kids in a way that most people can't. By being electronic free and stripped of most societal pressures, kids thrive at CV. I wish my parents sent me to CV when I was younger.

It's an incredible experience going up to the North woods for a month or more at a time. it may seem scary at first but it dosn't take long for it to become like a second home for you. After going to camp for 5 years now I find myself counting the days until I get to go back to camp not the other way around. But all in all it's an amazing experience and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who might be looking for a great summer camp in the North woods :)
