Half Moon Travel Clothing began over 30 years ago with a poncho designed by a traveler exploring the country on foot. We gained notoriety on festival circuits across the United States, and people all over the world now recognize our handmade, utilitarian designs.

We strive to maintain our ethos of excellent workmanship and unique garments while keeping up with a modern world-Half Moon's longtime wool supplier shuttered its production in 2018 and the Great Plague of 2020 shuttered all festival doors.Right now, we can be found at the New York and Maryland Renaissance Festivals, and we are accepting some custom orders.
Services
The story of Travel Clothing by Half Moon started in 1984 with the meeting of two artisanal minds. One had fashioned a poncho from a wool blanket while hitchhiking the American landscape. The other sought an alternative to "fast" fashion and the typical retail experience. Living out of tipi and then a repurposed school bus, the partners began designing and crafting garments.
Our capes come in several different styles and sizes. A Half Moon cape is essentially blanket-shaped. All capes have options for hoods or collars, added pockets, custom designs, and decorative hood tassels. NOTICE: We are no longer accepting custom orders for this season, except by special request.
Cloaks are our best-selling garment. A cloak is different from a cape in that it wraps around the whole body instead of draping over it, open on the sides. We offer a variety of options, from the popular Single Layer, our standard design, to the shorter Overlays and the heavy, delightfully warm Yoked and Travelers.
Half Moon coats range in style and purpose from streetwear to serious outdoor protection. Our fitted jackets (the Talon and the Archer) serve well as everyday wear, while our long and Victorian Pirate Kyrie) are wonderful for a night out. The wrap and hoodie styles (the Capote and Adept) are cozy and warm for any occasion.
We offer several accessories to our travel wear lines, including belts, scarves, and beaded and leather hood tassels. Many are ready-to-wear, but we also accept custom orders of all of these items. NOTICE: We are no longer accepting custom orders for this season, except by special request. Check back after the new year!

Half Moon makes a whole line of incredibly warm, attractive, and very cool wool coats, cloaks, and more.

While their main shop is based in the mountains of Colorado, they have outlets across the country at a number of renaissance festivals, including the Maryland Renaissance Festival.

I've been eying their cloaks for some time - and finally bought one a few years ago from their booth at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. They did not have what I wanted on hand - so I placed an order for a custom full length wool cloak with yoke - in green and black.

I bought the cloak about four years ago
