The mission of the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians is to promote and advance family medicine in order to improve the health of Indiana. Shape healthcare policy in Indiana through interactions with government, the public, businesses, the healthcare industry and our patients. Serve as the essential resource for the professional success of family physicians as leaders of the growing primary care workforce.
Family medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and family. It is a specialty in breadth that integrates the biological, clinical and behavioral sciences. The scope of family medicine encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system and every disease entity.

You practice the broadest scope of medicine, and family physicians all over the country know exactly the joys-and challenges-you face each day. Now, more than ever, that common bond is the reason members of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) treasure the connections they make through this organization- dedicated to supporting family physicians and their specialty.
The legislative priorities of the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians are recommended each year by the IAFP Commission on Legislation and approved by the Board of Directors. Just at a time when America needs more family physicians we see fewer and fewer students choosing this specialty and family physicians leaving the workforce earlier.
Indiana legislators need to hear from practicing family physicians on the issues you care about. Their decisions affect your life and practice! The IAFP offers a medium through which you can be involved in the legislative process. As physicians you hold a respected place in the community and your opinion counts, whether the issue is scope of practice or public health.
Interested in politics? There is a reason many of our Physicians of the Day serve year after year because serving as the Physician of the Day puts you in the heart of the action at the Indiana Statehouse. This interesting and fun program allows you to observe the legislative process firsthand, meet with your state legislators, and leave a great impression about family medicine on the General Assembly.
